June 2016 Monthly Newsletter

Old friends and new, welcome to The Teaching Well!  What started out in 2014 as a donation-based yoga program for teachers (Gift of Prana) has grown into a movement, and required a complete brand revision. Our programs for teachers in public and private schools throughout Oakland and (now!) Los Angeles, are changing the landscape of education by prioritizing teacher sustainability through health and wellness.

We believe that the health and well-being of educators make a critical difference in school culture, teacher retention and the lives of students. We know teacher sustainability is at the heart of educational transformation and we're here to lead the movement in California.

Please continue to read more below to find out more about our workour team, how to partner with us in support, or how to bring us to your school site.

About The Teaching Well Team

Back in January, Gift of Prana founder, Kelly Knoche, serendipitously met Jane Mayer, a teacher and educational leader from Los Angeles, at a women's visionary leadership event in Big Sur, California. In a short meeting over dinner, they realized that their visions for the transformation of education aligned and were calling them to form a non-profit organization expanding Gift of Prana's work and bringing it to Los Angeles. Together, they built The Teaching Well, and along with Air Gallegos, their Operations Manager and Erica Favela, their nutritionist, they have expanded Gift of Prana's original vision into a multi-year professional development program which supports teacher sustainability and student outcomes by focusing on wellness and communication on school sites. To read more about Kelly and Jane, along with Air, Erica and how you can partner to support The Teaching Well, visit our website.

How Can I Support
The Teaching Well?

As The Teaching Well grows and expands, we are always looking for support from foundations, corporations and individuals. We currently have an awesome team who supports us with in-kind donations and guidance. You can read more about our partners and joining our family here

Our big push this August, during Back-to-School month, is a goal to raise $40,000 to support low-cost Educator Workshops in Los Angeles and Oakland this year. Though many school sites purchase our professional development for their entire staffs, most of our teachers don't have that gift. They come to The Teaching Well on their own-- and need help is covering the tuition for a Weekend Wellness Workshop.

A $250 donation to The Teaching Well supports one educator's health and wellness this year. A $5,000 donation allows 20 teachers to attend our one-day workshop and thrive in their classrooms and a $20,000 donation covers the cost of a full- weekend workshop for up to 25 teachers. We're looking for a handful of corporations and foundations to sponsor workshops for teachers this year-- and for individuals to sponsor a teacher of their choosing in the Bay Area or Los Angeles through smaller donations. Look for our Kickstarter Campaign to support these scholarships, starting August 1!

If you are a foundation or corporation who wants to support the sustainability of teacher health, please contact Donor Coordinator, Jane Mayer at She will be thrilled to assist you in partnering with us. Each partnership with The Teaching Well is not only fully tax-deductible, but also comes with in-kind advertising and other perks.

Also, any time you can share our blog posts, Facebook posts, Instagram images, (you get the picture), please do! Movements take the collective energy of those who believe in them to affect great change. Join us-- and help teachers to tap the well within!
