DEC Emergency Coronavirus Appeal UK's Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal to help the world's most vulnerable through the coronavirus pandemic has been launched. 14 charities including Oxfam, Christian Aid, and the British Red Cross, join together. The UK government will double the first £10m of donations. Much of the money will go to refugee camps, where overcrowding and poor sanitation allows the virus to spread. The situations are desperate. The DEC is now providing food, water and medical care to people in countries including Syria, Yemen and South Sudan, Somalia, the Congo, Afghanistan and the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh. This will be our August e-newsletter to last through the next 3 weeks - to give you a little peace through this summer month! Hope and pray this is a time of rest and refreshment for you. Worship at St Mary's continues throughout August in person in the church building, but during the weeks of 17th and 24th August we'll be offline, and resting too from daily prayer on facebook live.
We’ve brought forward the feast day of the Blessed Virgin Mary from Saturday 15th August for a special celebration this Sunday, as next Sunday we have a special lay led service from our Parish Prayers etc team as we launch the 2nd Edition.
So today Sunday 9th, as Mary is of course the patron saint of the church here in Shalford, we celebrate our patronal festival for St Mary's Shalford, even in these semi-lockdown times and despite the lack of cake and festival party afterwards (extra large party next year!). And what better person to read a beautiful passage from Isaiah for us than Robin Godwin-Austen, a great support of St Mary’s church and Shalford both now and for generations before through his family. Our gospel reading is Mary’s beautiful and radical song, the Magnificat - more on that in word, image and song during worship, and connecting to the latest DEC appeal.
You can join via our now established 3 in 1 ways to worship together, as one St Mary's worshipping community online and off at 9.30am on Sundays and 12 noon on Wednesdays: In person with face masks in St Mary’s church building, or virtually at home via St Mary’s zoom, or St Mary's youtube.

News Update: St Mary's Churchyard Wall Repair
Works will begin on c. 3rd August and likely to continue for up to 16 weeks, with road lane closure for a short time within this. Please be sure not to interrupt the stonemasons as they work, or get too close to the works any other time for health and safety reasons. The works are being paid for and managed through Shalford Parish Council, but if you have any questions or concerns along the way do contact Sally, Churchwarden, or Rev Sarah, and they'll pass messages on to SPC.
Two great venues - open for all. Please spread the word far and wide that both St Mary's Church Shalford and St Michael's Village Hall Peasmarsh, are open for bookings again for the coming months
