Dear friends,

Welcome to St Mary’s Shalford e-news with worship links and latest news.  In our Sunday worship this week, our gospel passage (Matthew 9:35-10:8) draws us out to reflect on our journey of life as pilgrim disciples. To reflect on our inner and outward lives, stumbling, falling, getting up again, running, wandering, through the twists and turns, rejections and rejoicing, of life.  Stepping onward on our pilgrim paths, as disciples, learners...... in faith.

Today we we especially celebrate a truly inspiring faithful disciple and much loved Shalford resident in the family of St Mary's - Rev'd Stanley.  It’s a joy to welcome Stanley to preach for us today from his garden as we celebrate with him on the 65th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, and his life of dedicated loving service to others and to God.  Thanks too to Sue for reading the gospel, and Katrina for leading us in prayer.
On Monday 22nd if all the sanitisers and signs and other measures are in place to ensure we can care for everybody’s safety, we’ll re-open St Mary’s Church building for private prayer, and space for peace and sanctuary.  A joyful step forward, but not to a ‘new normal’. There’s surely no ‘new normal’ where God is concerned, but a call to new ‘extra-ordinary’ life.  So we pray to continue to step forward together as pilgrim disciples, and a transforming inclusive caring church for all, journeying on in faith in the extra-ordinariness of life, of love, of God.
Two other small new St Mary’s ways to celebrate life together. Shortly, thanks to the Roberts family, we'll add the second story to our special new youtube St Mary’s Storytime channel - this is for you if you’re a toddler, or a weary adult, seeking a little story to lull you to sleep. If you’d like to contribute a story to our new little online library, that would be just great - please let me know.
In a couple of weeks, as we begin to grow as a 'blended' on and offline church, we’ll trial a St Mary’s mid-week worship on zoom, with a short service of Holy Communion all can join live online, or as recorded at any time afterwards.  More details next Sunday.

Don't forget to send in your contributions this week to our special issue of Shalford Parish Magazine (see below).  Please send contributions if you can - the more the better to cheer each other with.

Finally, do listen (click here) to Bishop Jo’s sermon today or sometime this week, especially if you're a disciple who needs to shake!:

For your prayers:  We give thanks today for those who are recovering from illness, especially in the St Mary's family, for Joanna's return home.  We continue to pray for all mourning the loss of loved ones, or in any sickness or injury struggling for life at this time, and for all struggling in love not able to be by their side. We pray for our brothers and sisters in India, with coronavirus now spreading rapidly and most unable to access any hospital or medical care at all.

A prayer, as we journey on together:

God of our pilgrimage
Be the Fire Leading Us.
Be the Star Guiding Us.
Be the Good Shepherd Calling Us.
May your Spirit, Strengthen Us
As we journey on our pilgrim path
with you in faith.  Amen

with love and prayers,
Rev'd Sarah

Eco-Church Update: St Mary's Wild Churchyard Area

Shalford Guides have been busy with wild thinking as they help lead our wild churchyard area at St Mary's.  Thanks to India and friends for the bug hotel that's now awaiting guests. More news soon as this first St Mary's eco-church project develops. Special thanks to Marion and the Shalford Guides.

You have been so generous in your donated gifts of luxury toiletries via the collections in St Mary's church porch for staff in local hospitals. Harriet, who has coordinated all this, wants to pass on huge thanks to you from all the staff in our local hospitals. A couple of the many messages of thanks below, first from a consultant who took in to her ICU in Frimley hospital the first gifts...

“I am just having a moment. Eyes welling up with tears. Again. Just sorting through some of the boxes from your church collection. I am slightly overwhelmed by people’s generosity and most of all the little handwritten notes they have attached. I’m taking them in on Saturday, for the (male) porters, theatre and recovery nurses who have all had to retrain to work in ICU and seem to be having the toughest time.  Cx”

“Morning! This is some of the night shift nurses receiving their Shalford gifts. - they were overwhelmed and v emotional to be given them. Some of the messages your friends have included on the donations were incredibly moving. Hit just the right spot. Thank you. Xxx”
