E-Newsletter St Mary's & St Michael's Parish of Shalford & Peasmarsh September 13th 2020
This Sunday 13th Sept
at St Mary's Eco Church / Climate Sunday
9.30am Holy Communion -inside
10.30-11.30am Wild Young Churchyard - activities and gathering for young, in St Mary's Churchyard - including annual sowing of new seed for our wild churchyard flower meadow (bring a rake, bundle of mini bamboo sticks, your own coffee and warm clothing)
2.30pm Baptism of Louis Dear
The introduction of new restrictions and the national news is disturbing, but for now we can continue to give thanks that we can gather in person for worship at St Mary's (we still need to keep numbers in the church building limited and keep very closely to safety guidelines and for those very vulnerable to consider whether they can join via zoom for fellowship together too or on a Wednesday quieter worship for now at least).
Please let me know how you feel you could be served better by St Mary's at this time too - we'll be here for you however we can and hopefully nobody will be excluded or left feeling alone or unable to pray or worship God or join in fellowship with others somehow. We continue to try extremely hard to include all, particularly those needing to stay at home, and so continue to offer (imperfectly I'm afraid but with much effort to improve) a full range of ways and times and days, in person in church and on doorstep, and online on zoom, youtube and facebook, to offer you and every person in the parish at least one way to join together to worship, to join in prayer, in fellowship groups, in simple coffee/walking opportunities and to find pastoral support.
It's a joy to be starting to be able to join with our friends in Sunrise again now, and again with the children at Shalford Infants hopefully soon. And as you can see by our St Mary's Christmas Tree Festival with Market notice below, we will keep offering all we can for the whole parish and worshipping community through these times, even if plans have to change at the last minute due to guidelines and safety.
Things are complex however, and I would encourage you to give zoom more of a chance as we move into further restrictions and to join our fellowship groups as a way to meet with others meaningfully in these times too.
Our temporary back to church building worship times of Wednesdays 12 noon and Sundays 9.30am, with the addition of monthly 10.30am for younger families, (which was a pattern supported for this temporary stage through our last PCC meeting), have been receiving very positive responses as well as a few I know struggling to get to the church building for 9.30am on a Sunday as they would wish and two people missing 8am. Please keep bearing with us in these difficult times as we try to respond to so many different requests and needs, as well as find some kind of temporary regular pattern which can include all people, in person and online, and so that people start to know what's when where! We will get there, and if the current temporary service times look possible to continue, and after ongoing feedback and our next PCC discussion on worship too at end Sept, then the planned wide and open survey of the worshipping community will take place soon still. In the meantime, do please keep feeding back your thoughts and needs to me and/or any member of St Mary's PCC who'll pass them on, so that we can continue to ensure all voices are heard and support given. Everything is still so temporary, safety is a top priority, and opening the building for worship at all is a challenge, as is offering all online for the inclusion of all, but so important.
One thing at the heart of all we do and are, and in greatest need at the moment as always, is prayer. There's certainly a great deal to bring to God in prayer at the moment, and a great need to listen and sit with God and find his presence deep in our lives and our world. With this in mind.... All are welcome to join me (but no more than 5 for now) in St Mary's on Mondays at for a time of Silent Parish Prayer. Starting week of 28th Sept at 6pm for now.
I shall be away from next Sunday for a week, and Stanley will be leading our worship next Sunday with a spiritual communion, and Katrina on Wednesday 23rd with a service of the word. Please do also let me know asap if you'd like to join with others in fellowship in our Pilgrim Groups, starting at the end of September but we need to order books so please get in touch asap. This is a great chance to keep in touch with each other as well in a meaningful way at this time, so please give the small groups a try if you wish.
Please pray for little Louis Dear and his family, as he is baptised this Sunday at St Mary's, for Rose Amery's family after yesterday's funeral for Rose, and for those preparing for marriage too.
May God give to you and to all those you love
his comfort, his peace, and deep rest. Amen with love and prayers, Rev'd Sarah
PS. Please forward this newsletter to any who you think might be interested, and ask them to email us if they'd like to receive this e-news regularly.

Macmillan Coffee Morning Can you help by baking cakes??
Saturday 26th September at St Mary's Church Friends of Shalford & St Mary's Shalford hope you'll be keen to join in to raise funds for the amazing dedicated work of MacMillan. Already, since planning, things have sadly had to be rethought, but we still hope to host a cake sale (staggered & safely collect) morning and somehow we'll continue to help people come together around favourite brews - via zoom now. Could you help by making cakes/slices? Please contact Tricia: email@example.com
St Mary's Small Fellowship Groups begin again... A chance to come together for 6 or 7 weeks (or as many as you can make), in a group of no more than 8 (we can have more than one group!), to ponder the weekly short course video, chat together (or just listen if you prefer) about questions raised and faith in everyday life, and join in fellowship together. If we are able we will run as hybrid course - ie the chance for a few to gather safely in church joining others via zoom at home. All welcome, whether seeking to explore faith for the first time, or many years along your journey. See below for more details
The Pilgrim Course
- The Eucharist -
Starting end of September with The Pilgrim Course on The Eucharist. Mondays at 5pm or Wednesdays at 5pm. Please let Rev Sarah know before 16th Sept if you'd like to join. Pilgrim 6: The Eucharist (from the Church of England) explores in greater depth how Christians know and worship God. Its six sessions reveal the reasons why The Eucharist stands at the very heart of Christian worship. http://www.pilgrimcourse.org/books/the-eucharist-(book-6)
