Hi <<First Name>>,
The summer is flying by, and here we are in the middle of August 2021. We thought we were safe and coming out of the pandemic at the start of the summer, but now everything is uncertain. We've existed in survival mode and high alert since March of 2020 while we continue to fight for racial justice, the climate, and democracy.
With all that is happening in the world at so many levels, how do we find solace?
How do we find peace of mind without completely withdrawing from the world?
As for me, I will be offline for the next two weeks. I'll put away my devices to enjoy all of the wild beauty the earth still has to offer. It is my sincerest wish that you will take in the pauses in your day to reserve some peaceful space for yourself, too.
It's important to allow time for restorative activities when our surrounding world seems unsettled.
I want to leave you with this beautiful poem.
The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry
When despair grows in me
and I wake in the middle of the Night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the Peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting for their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world and am free.
See you in September!
