Supply Disruption of 65+ Flu Vaccine Products

TBDHU does not have enough 65+ vaccine products (either Fluzone High Dose or Fluad) to fulfill all vaccine orders this week. In response to this shortage, we will prioritize distribution to:
  1. Providers who have not received any 65+ flu product this year
  2. Providers who do not have any 65+ flu product on hand currently
Orders for Fluzone HD or Fluad for these priority groups will be filled with either Fluzone HD or Fluad based on TBDHU supply. Both products are authorized for use in those over 65 years of age. There is no product preference. If TBDHU does not have Fluzone HD or Fluad at the time of your order, you will be notified and offered to receive Fluzone QIV. Fluzone QIV still provides strong protection against the flu for those aged 65+.

We anticipate receiving a limited number of Fluzone HD and Fluad doses next week. However, supplies of 65+ flu products are limited this influenza season, and we expect supply disruptions to continue. Please share the following key messages with your patients:
  • Individuals 65+ should receive the flu product they are offered first and should not delay flu immunization.
  • Some pharmacies may still have Fluzone HD and Fluad; however, clients should call pharmacies to obtain information about supply availability. We cannot comment on pharmacy supply of flu vaccine products.

Change to Flu Vaccine Ordering Schedule

Beginning the week of October 31, TBDHU will move to a set schedule for flu vaccine ordering. Please follow this schedule when placing your orders for flu vaccine products.
  • Submit flu vaccine orders: Monday-Tuesday
  • Pick up flu vaccine orders: Thursday-Friday
If you require an order sooner than this schedule permits, let us know. Health care providers should only order the flu vaccine needed one week at a time and consider their fridge capacity and the dimensions of the product(s) when ordering. A cheat sheet with product dimensions is available on our website. Adequate pre-conditioned cooler(s) should also be brought to pick up these orders.

Reminder of Vaccine Eligibility at TBDHU's COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

A reminder that only the following groups are eligible to receive a flu vaccine at TBDHU COVID Vaccine Clinics:
  • Anyone over the age of 5 who has also come to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, in which case they can receive both vaccines simultaneously; OR
  • Those <5 who do not have a health care provider, along with any family members who are accompanying them.
Flu vaccines will not be available to those who are not receiving a COVID-19 vaccine or who are not children <5 or their accompanying family members. Please direct clients to a local pharmacy or the clinic listings at https://www.tbdhu.com/GettingTheFluSHot for other flu vaccination opportunities if you are not vaccinating patients in your practice.

We apologize if you are receiving this message twice.
