Prouts Neck Constitution Party July 4, 1987 (18 years ago)
Prouts Neck Constitution Party at Mary Brinton's House (now Roaks), organized by Lathrop and Dody Gates to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution (1787). The children provided their own 'amendments' - see below.

The Prouts Neck Constitution

We the children of Prout's Neck, in order to perpetuate our fine community, insure everyone's safety, provide for our continued happiness, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of long lasting friendships to our selves, our brothers, sisters, moms, dads, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and the posterity of all of us, do ordain and establish this constitution for Prouts Neck.

Article 1) Wildlife: Preserve Wildlife except mosquitos, All sea creatures should be returned to the sea, Don't ride bikes in the Sanctuary, Don't litter, Use trash cans.

Article 2) Safety: Always have a friend when you walk home in the dark, Cars should go slowly so children can be safe on bicycles and when walking, Don't go with strangers, Don't wear slippery shoes on rocks, Don't go fast in cars and on bikes,Don't go in the water at the beach unless a grown-up is watching you, Be careful crossing roads in Prout's Neck, Be sure to wear a life preserver at the Yacht Club if you can't swim, At the Country Club your bikes have to be in the bike racks, Lights on all bikes, ride your bike on the correct side of the road, Wear a life jacket when on a boat, You may not ride a bike at night without a light, Cars must have their lights on at night and look out for bikes.

Article 3) General Welfare: Help others when needed, Help Youngers, Children shouldn't fight, Strangers shouldn't have wars, Everyone has to share something at least once a day, Pay attention to other's feelings, Don't criticize, Be nice, Treat people the way you want to be treated, Accept people who at first seem different, Respect for everyone.

1942 (73 years ago), David Moffet preparing the PNA's 1937 Fire Truck for a parade. She'll hopefully be there again this year!
