Introduction from Sophie

Happy April! And happy marathon season! My gosh - what an eventful month this is turning out to be.

Yes, I am back in England. My working sabbatical in Australia and Asia over the last 15 months was phenomenal and I looking forward to sharing my teachings with you all.

I had the amazing opportunity to work with the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) teams: Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks. In Asia, I worked with novice to professional MMA and Muay Thai fighters and Crossfit competitors. I have a lot to tell you!

For now, our attentions are drawn to the three main marathons this month - Paris (last week), Brighton (this weekend) and of course London on 22 April.

I hope you will join me in sending good luck to the 63 (!) SV clients taking part in these epic challenges this month!

The benefits of running a marathon are huge! But the consequences of running a marathon are gross fatigue, tightness and pain in the body’s muscles.

A post-race sports massage costs £40 for 30 minutes or £65 for 60 minutes. We can post out an SV gift voucher for you to pass onto them or just credit their account.

SV attends London Marathon briefing at Saint Francis Hospice

On Wednesday 4 April, Sophie attended a briefing session for #TeamSFH - the group of runners taking part in this year's London Marathon for Saint Francis Hospice.

Sophie, along with sports psychologist Andy, nutritionist David and personal trainer Tom, met with the SFH runners one final time ahead of their big race on 22 April.

SV events team attends St Clare Hospice 10k (and Sophie ran it!)

On Sunday 8 April 2018, the SV Events Team - Jess, Tanya and Sophie - attended the St Clare Hospice 10k, providing runners with pre and post race sports therapy treatments.

At 10:30, the 300+ runners set off, including Sophie, who finished in 53 mins.

Client of the Month: Joelle Ewan

Joelle Ewan (20) is a long time client of SV Sports Therapy. She first started seeing Sophie when she was a junior member of Orion Harriers running club in 2012, suffering from hip and shin issues. 

For the past four months, Joelle has taken on the challenge of training for the 2018 London Marathon.

We are so proud of Joelle as she has been consistent in her training and we can’t wait to cheer her on!

 Well done, Joelle! Go kick this marathon’s butt!

SV client Daniel selected for South American journey of a lifetime

We are thrilled to introduce SV client, Daniel Everard (17), who is a trampoline coach at Casablanca and who came to us for treatment following a trampoline injury. Jess has been treating him for a couple months.

Daniel was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy when he was 15.

In September 2017, his neurologist nominated him for for an expedition to South America with the Journey of a Lifetime Trust (JoLt), a small charity that organises expeditions all over the world for groups of young people (aged 14 - 21) with significant disadvantages.

In early April, Daniel had confirmation that he will be going to Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands in July and on 11 April, Daniel undertook the RunThrough 'Chase The Sun' 10k at the Olympic Park with his sister Louisa to raise money for JoLt. 

In Daniel's own words, he "would like to give back to them and hopefully enable another disadvantaged person a journey of a lifetime."

SV will be sponsoring and attending the Harlow 10

SV is proud to be supporting the 30th Annual Harlow 10 Mile Road Race on 9 September 2018.

The race starts at Mark Hall Sports Centre, London Road, Harlow at 10am.

The SV Sports Therapy events team will be on hand to provide pre and post race sports massages and sports therapy advice.

Sophie's Final Thoughts

I'll standing proud at mile 25 on 22 April, with my purple balloons and flag, cheering all the runners on.

If you’re running the London Marathon, look out for me on the right hand side, just after the mile 25 mark.

I'll be standing in line with the London Eye, which will be on your left hand side.
Jessica – I am so proud of you! You joined our team in 2016 and you detested running. Then you became inspired by our 2017 London Marathon runners - so much so you entered the 2018 London Marathon and got a charity place for MS-UK.

Now with 16 weeks of marathon training under your belt, you are taking part next week! A big shout out goes to John Hanlon and all the Orion Harriers who have helped and supported Jess during her 16 week plan. Thank you!

Enjoy the rest of your April. If you haven’t got any events planned yet for 2018, get the diary out and get planning. What are you waiting for? Test yourself - it’s time to step out of that ‘comfort zone’.

Guess who’s planning on running the London Marathon in 2019? [Clue: me!]
