Hope 2022 started well!

I am pleased to announce that Elliot Pill joined the Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) editorial board. As the Director of International Development at Cardiff University (UK) and former celebrity publicist for David Beckham, his specialty in promotional culture will be insightful for media and celebrity studies. Read more:

Also, CBC music host George Stroumboulopoulos named CMCS board member & celebrity activist Anita Krajnc as one of the most influential women in Toronto! Read about her outstanding contributions: Earlier, Anita and Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix were featured for the groundbreaking #BeFairBeVegan campaign in Hollywood news: Entertainment Tonight (RT) Canada, Global News, The Globe and Mail, CTV, CP24 Breaking News. His eco-friendly commentary on the complete plant-based menu at the 77th Golden Globes Awards is significant for climate change and animals in the history of Hollywood entertainment. Check out our post on it here.

In other Hollywood news, The Telegraph (UK) covered CMCS and my opinions in an interview on Taylor Swift. Special acknowledgments go to London-based journalist Chris Stokel-Walker for featuring my views along with other scholarly opinions: Read my additional commentary on Taylor Swift after notes on my productions here.

I am also proud to announce that CMCS board member Kiera Obbard and CMCS conference committee member Sabrina Moro will develop special journal issues for the Journal of Applied Journalism and Media Studies as well as the Journal of Fandom Studies (Intellect Books) next. Based on the best papers of the 2019 NYC conference, the publications are scheduled to release in 2022. Huge congratulations to Kiera and Sabrina for becoming the main editors of the journal issues. Our keynotes Andrew Zolides, Basuli Deb, and Alex Symons will offer their forewards. Notifications to selected authors will be sent shortly.

Meanwhile, our edited collection based on best papers from our Lisbon conference will be formally launched along with my media guide Becoming Media Critics (WaterHill Publishing) – stay tuned for the release date this year. Please feel free to check out the pre-launch copy of the guide here.

Note: The deadline for the Call for Papers on Hugh Grant is coming up on January 18, 2020). Special thanks to Eleonora Sammartino for sharing the CFP with CMCS members.
