Meeting Summary February 2016

Greetings MaSHers!

I want to thank Steve again for hosting the meeting this month.  I wish I could have been there to take advantage of his hospitality.  On top of this I've heard great feedback on Eric's presentation regarding BIAB.  There is a slideshow available for anyone who missed it or who would like to refer back to it.  There is a lot of great info in the slides and links to other sources.  Please do not reuse this presentation without Eric's permission.  If you would like to check it out here is the link - BIAB seems a great way to test batches, transition to all-grain or even just all-grain brew with much less equipment.

As some of you may have heard former MaSH president Jason has moved to Oregon.  It's unfortunate his Belgian's and Barleywine's will no longer be available at the meetings.  Jason too will be missed of course.  The club will always remember all he did while he was President.  As if that wasn't enough he has also gifted a number of items to the club.  The board is still working out the best use of these items which include a bottle rack/dryer, bottle sanitizer device, ph buffer for your mash, a beer gun and other items. Immediately available are four 1 gallon glass jugs.  These are great for experimental batches, small sours, hard cider or I suppose enormous yeast starters.  These glass jugs are clear and are in like new condition.  If you want one I will bring them to the meeting in March or if you just can't wait to get your hands on one you can email me at and we'll figure out a way for you to pick one up.  Thank you Jason, you will be missed.  Best of luck in Oregon and please come to a meeting if you're ever in the area!

Upcoming is the 2016 Napa Homebrewers Classic Brewfest on March 5 from Noon – 5:00 pm at Chardonnay Hall, Napa Valley Expo, 575 3rd St., Napa. This popular brewfest is back with lots of great homemade beer. Your ticket lets you be the judge of some of the best homemade beer on the planet or if you volunteer to pour your own homebrew at the event, you get a FREE entry to the festival and the crowd will judge if your beer is most popular.  If you want to do this reach out to Mike Riddle ASAP to make sure there is still room for you, do not just show up with a keg as there are other requirements to pouring as well. All proceeds benefit the charity projects of the Rotary Club of North Napa. Details are available at

Please note you can pay your dues to Paypal using the button below and I will update Meetup accordingly.  Paypal is less fees than renewing through meetup and is the preferred payment option.

The March meeting newsletter will be coming out in a week or so with details for the Quarterly Style competition, updates on the county fair and anything else that comes up before it's sent out.
