September 2016 Newsletter!
Greetings MaSHers and friends!
The meeting this month, on Wednesday 9/21 from 7-9, will be at Beercraft Novato! Thank you JT for hosting the MaSH meeting. I will probably get there a little early to do some sampling. Returning this meeting will be the feedback foyer. Apologies for missing it the past couple meetings and if that happens again feel free to pull a judge aside for discussion. Also on the agenda is announcement of the quarterly style winner. I’d like to review some local Oktoberfest activities so if there are any you enjoy or will be attending please let me know or bring the info to the meeting to share.
We are still looking for discussion topics so pass them on. Anything you may have interest in is helpful. So far on the list are sours and a discussion on sanitation. Some people may have questions on mashing, hop utilization, specialty grains, carbonation, malt extract, etc. so if you do please let us know. The club is for brewers of all levels, not just advanced brewing.
Just a reminder that the quarterly style is Hefeweizen/American Wheat, please dropoff entries at J&M on Sat 9/17 by 5PM or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for an alternative plan. This will give the judges time to review everything before the meeting. If anyone else would like to judge please let me know, the more people tasting the better the feedback will be.
I’m hoping we can get a review of the NorCal homebrew fest from Mark, Jim and Kevin. It would be great to know how our first club booth went and if they’d go again next year. I’d like to hear about some of the other club booths as well. Perhaps next year we can get a larger group to go, I am interested.
AHA rally at Heretic Brewing Co. on Oct. 29th. Please be sure to RSVP if you can go both with the AHA and MaSH. MaSH will have a bus to take us to the event. The club will pay for part of the bus and the more people that go the less cost to all of us. It’s a 14 person bus and there are still plenty of seats left. I have setup a page on the site for people to sign up for a seat - Club RSVP. You do need to be an AHA member to attend the rally. The rallies are well worth it and so is the AHA membership if you aren’t already signed up. There is a wort giveaway again this year to the first 200 to RSVP so keep a vessel free for transport home. Last year they gave out yeast as well so it was essentially a free batch. Attendees were also gifted a sixer of evil twin on the way out, it was a great time. Also, we can bring homebrew on the bus as well as lunch / snacks. Times and repetition of details are on the Events Page.
