Up Next: Our final event in the Race 13.1 "spring" season is the inaugural Flagstar Bank Race 13.1 Detroit, MI this Saturday, July 2! There's still time to sign up to join us for the race, which features a picturesque and FLAT course on the beautiful Belle Isle! The race day forecast shows a high of just upper 70s, so this will be a perfect race to kick off your summer training!

You may prefer to run indoors when it's hot and humid this summer, but there's definitely a benefit to training outdoors - at least some of the time! Did you know that Vitamin D is a crucial part of overall health, performance, and recovery? This article on RunnersWorld.com explains how important Vitamin D is for runners.

Everyone, especially runners, needs vitamin D. It’s a key nutrient linked to a host of health and performance-related outcomes, including bone and muscle health, anti-inflammation, and heart health. Research has also suggested that vitamin D has the potential to optimize athletic performance.

Boost Endurance
Studies have shown that vitamin D may increase maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), which is an indicator for endurance capacity. This could mean having proper vitamin D stores can lead to more successful long runs. 

Enhance Muscle Recovery
In order to train for long periods of time, runners need to be able to recover quickly. Studies have found that vitamin D helps with muscle recovery and reduces some inflammatory markers
