 Our 2015 race season kicked off with two great races in Wilmington, NC on  February 22 and Roanoke, VA on March 1. If you haven't checked out the race photos yet, you can view Wilmington photos here and Roanoke photos here
• Less than six weeks until our next race - Race 13.1 Evans, GA - on April 26! The final price increase is next Monday, March 23, so sign up soon to save $10!
 Registration is now open for Race 13.1 Asheville, NC on November 14! This beautiful course will feature the scenic Reed Creek Greenway, and runners will pass by the Asheville Botanical Gardens and onto the campus of UNC-Asheville before turning around by the historic Grove Park Inn.
• We'll be opening registration for a brand new race later this week (hint: it's our second race in the Sunshine State!), and we'll have another 2-3 races that will still be added to the fall race calendar very soon!

Record-Setting Race in Wilmington 

Congratulations to Bill Shires, of Charlotte, NC, who set a new USATF state half marathon record for North Carolina in the men's 50-55 age group at Race 13.1 Wilmington, NC on February 22! 

Bill won the inaugural race in Wilmington and set the record in a speedy 1:18:57. Way to go, Bill!

Race 13.1 TN Valley - MoonPie Mini Challenge

We're excited to introduce the Inaugural MoonPie Mini Challenge at Race 13.1 TN Valley on May 2! This fun event for all ages will take place at 10:30am at the completion of the half marathon and before the awards ceremony and giveaway. 

MoonPie Mini Challenge Details:
  • Race 13.1 TN Valley participants and non-participants are invited to enter the challenge!
  • Participants will run .131 miles (a mini Race 13.1!), eat three mini MoonPies, and run another mini .131 miles to the finish line.
  • Each participant will receive a MoonPie Mini Challenge T-shirt.
  • The Challenge winner will win free MoonPies for a year!
  • Entry costs $20, but participants in Race 13.1 TN Valley can enter for a discounted rate of $10 using the discount code listed in your registration confirmation email!
Tip of the Month                                   

A lot of you like to get your run in early in the day, but moving the clock forward with Daylight Savings Time earlier this month means it's still dark when you get started. Running in daylight is always a safer choice, but if you have to run in the early morning or at night, be sure to follow these guidelines:

1. Always Run Against Traffic: If you’re running on roads, make sure you are facing the traffic (left side of the road). It’s easier to avoid cars if you can see them coming. Avoid busy roads and those with no shoulders or sidewalks.

2. Be Visible: Make sure other runners and vehicles can see you. Wear bright and reflective clothing (white, yellow, or orange) and a reflective vest. Invest in a head lamp or hands-free light.

3. Choose a Well-lit Route: Rethink your run route if you’re used to running on trails. Although it’s nice and peaceful while running on trails, it can be unsafe in the dark. Stick to busier roads and well lit areas. Oncoming cars see you better, and you’ll always be able to see the road and avoid potential hazards.
