Marie's February Flashback Newsletter
Hello, readers! I hope you had a nice weekend and a wonderful upcoming St. Patrick’s Day! Yes, I know it’s already the 15th. I always mean to get these newsletters out earlier, but as we all know, life just happens. ;) Hopefully this newsletter today will provide some updates about events you may have missed since last time, as well as events to look forward to!
In the last newsletter, I brought you up to date with events occurring just before Valentine’s Day. We’ll continue from there, then cover the rest of February and part of March. In February, I found out that during the week of February 6th, I made the TOP 10 Authors List on Authors Database. So exciting! On February 13th, Second Chance Heart (SCH), my contemporary romance, earned a four star review on the Lost in Sweet Words blog. Thank you for your kind words, Nikki! Two days later, I had an author interview on Meglena Ivanova’s blog. It was fun! Find out more about me and my writing process in the interview here.
On February 16th, I hosted a cover reveal for A.B. Funkhauser’s upcoming humorous horror book, SCOOTER NATION, on the MLB blog. I met A.B. during my author journey, and she is always a huge help to other writers. On February 19th, Rita Plush came by the MLB blog to give us some details about her new women’s fiction novel, Feminine Products. The following day brought an interview with yours truly on Dante Craddock’s site. Check out this detailed interview here, and you’ll learn some fun facts about me, my writing and publishing journey, and my latest release, SCH!
Three days later, Sarah J. Pepper visited the MLB blog to give us a brief introduction to her new release, a dark paranormal romance titled Soulless. Also on the same day, Sable Hunter got a promo for her Western romance book, I’ll See You in My Dreams, on the I Love Romance Blog (ILRB) during a free Amazon promotion she was running. Two days later, my lighthearted romantic fantasy, Magick & Moonlight (M&M), received a nice book review on the Online Book Club. You can view it here! Also on February 25th, Dr. Matthew Anderson visited the MLB blog to tell us about his romantic self-help book, The Resurrection of Romance! Some very good tips from the doctor too! :)
On February 26th, I had a radio interview with host Carol Graham for her show, Never Ever Give Up Hope. It was very interesting to speak with Carol about my books, writing and some personal history regarding perseverance. It takes a bit to process the recording, so you’ll be seeing my interview up on her blog later this month. I’ll give you the exact link in my next newsletter. On March 1st, character Amy Pearson from K.C. Sprayberry’s new YA book, The Lie, visited ILRB. It was very interesting to learn about Amy and her life!
Two days later, I found out I won the ‘Broken Heart’ themed poetry contest for Poetry Universe. What an honor! Also on March 3rd, I hosted an interview for author Alex Pilalis on the MLB blog. It was fun to learn all about Alex’s fantasy adventure novel, The Awakening of James Island! Also on the same day, Keri Lake came by ILRB to give us a look at the cover for her dark romantic suspense novel, Backfire, which will be released this summer. Great cover! Additionally, SCH got an awesome five star official book review! Yay! Thank you so much for your fine compliments, Don Sloan! Two days later, I wrote an article for the Writing in the Modern Age blog about the romance genre and how to better understand it. I also hosted a small giveaway on there. Check it out! You may learn something new about romance novels! On March 6th, I discovered I won the ‘I Love You’ themed poetry contest on Poetry Universe. Yeah! Double awesome! I landed the title ‘Empress of the Universe’ twice. So, that was pretty cool! Check out the poems that won those titles here and here.
Two days later, K.C. Sprayberry came by the MLB blog for a cool spotlight on her YA fiction new release, The Lie! On March 9th, I had an author spotlight and feature for Upon Your Return (UYR), a historical romance and book one of the Heiresses in Love Series, on fellow Solstice author Ann Anderson’s site. Check out the details here! The following day brought a chilling book spotlight for Michael Aronovitz’s new horror book, Phantom Effect, on the MLB blog. Very interesting! And on March 11th, Teresa McRae stopped by the blog on her book tour for historical fiction novel, Mamie Garrison! What a fascinating writing journey Teresa has had and her book sounds great!
Well, I can’t have a newsletter without mentioning Writing in the Modern Age (#WritModAge), my writing community blog. On the blog, writers at any stage of their careers can visit for advice, and readers can find new, favorite authors! I am very proud of this venture and it’s expanding all the time. Check out our new ‘blog policy’ page for more details. The guest authors for the blog this month were Susanne Matthews, Gloria Weber, L. Anne Carrington, Silvia Villalobos, Dan Buri, K.C. Sprayberry and Jim Cronin.

It looks like it’s time to tell you what’s going with regards to my book news.
I hope to release three or four books this year. Upon Your Love, a historical romance/family saga and the third and final book of the Heiresses in Love Series, is currently with critique partners and beta readers. Once I receive all feedback and make a few adjustments, I will send the manuscript to my proofreader for a final look before sending it to my publisher. So, we’re getting close!
I also have a sci-fi romance titled Blue Vision, which is book one of the Code of Endhivar Series. This manuscript is written and currently in edits. It should be ready for beta readers very soon. If you like romance and science fiction, and don’t mind offering some feedback, look me up. I’ll add you the beta reader list. :) I am really excited for my fans to see the start to this new series!
Additionally, I have plans to release some anthologies. One in particular is titled Directions of the Heart. This will be a romantic drama containing four novellas. Another anthology I might release this year is a paranormal thriller called Awakening. This will contain two paranormal tales. I already have the cover for it as well.
So, if I don’t have unforeseen delays, I hope to have these titles out this year!
Bizarre & Unusual
If you’ve been following my newsletters, then you know it’s my habit to include a bizarre or unusual holiday, recognize an event we don’t often celebrate. Below are some that stood out to me for the rest of March:
- Music in Our Schools Month
- National Craft Month
- National Frozen Food Month
- National Irish American Heritage Month- designated by Congress in 1995.
- National Women's History Month
- Social Workers Month
March, 2016 Daily Holidays, Special and Wacky Days:
- 2nd Week National Bubble Week
- 2nd Week Crochet Week
So many to choose from, right? Oh, man, I missed Multiple Personality Day on the 5th! Not that writers don’t already deal with that problem, having tons of characters bouncing around in their heads, all vying for attention. LOL.
Anyway, I think for this newsletter, I’ll choose Take a Walk in the Park Day on the 30th. Here in Indiana, at least today (and believe me, the weather here is so unpredictable, it changes constantly), it feels like Spring is officially here. It seems like the perfect time to take a walk.
Well, why not? You don’t have to do it on a specific day, but at any time. Just grab your favorite person and take a walk in the park. Or down your street. Hopefully where you walk you have some nice scenery. Take a deep breath. Enjoy the fresh air. A walk can clear your head of those cobwebs, that jumble of daily stressors. We could all use a nice walk from time to time.
So, go for it! Have a little fun. Enjoy nature. Enjoy life. I doubt you’ll regret it.
For now, I’ll sign off and see you next time, everyone! Don’t forget to swing by the Facebook giveaway to pick up some free romance reads! Have a great St. Patrick’s Day! Oh, and Happy Easter!
Take care. And, as always, happy reading! :)
