Go matchy-matchy with your pooch this winter

Winter is nearing and with the recent cold snap, knitwear is definitely in order for both human and hound. Why not make a statement and coordinate your chunky knit with man’s best friend?

Thanks to the likes of H&M, Joules and Missguided, you can do just that. Yep, from Christmas sweaters to the classic turtleneck, there’s something for every duo. But the question is, can you stop at just one pair of sweaters or will you have the lot? It is Christmas after all…

Pup found with second tail sprouting from his head

A not-your-average 10-week-old rescue puppy has been found roaming the streets of Missouri . But what makes this little guy special, you ask? Well, he has a second tail growing out of his forehead!

Christened Narwhal – chosen since his extra tail looks like a tusk – has been given a clean bill of health with x-rays showing  no bones in the ‘tail’, so it doesn’t actually wag – sadly.

As long as the extra tail doesn’t cause him any issues, the young pooch will keep his unusual feature to celebrate his ‘uniqueness’ – which we wholeheartedly support!

Owner orders last supper of filet mignon for cancer-suffering pooch

A fourteen-year-old Maltese was treated to a £29 steak dinner as she said goodbye to her owner – and the kind-hearted staff footed the bill.

The pup, Phoebe, had been battling cancer for the past eight months and sadly, her owner knew it was time to let her go. When she told the restaurant that it was her last day with Phoebe, they pampered the pooch with cuddles and love before serving up her high-class dinner in a silver bowl.

The much-missed dog’s ashes are being turned into tattoo ink, as her owner plans a permanent pawprint on her body to remember her by.

Over 100 dachshunds rescued from puppy farms

Following a crackdown on illegal dog breeding in Greater Manchester, over one hundred sausage dogs have been rescued from nine properties after the police received tips from the public.

All of the dachshunds have been placed in the care of the RSPCA and are undergoing health checks this week. The poor pups will be put up for adoption into loving homes once the investigation has been closed.

British dog breeds falling out of favour as trendy European breeds top the charts

According to the Kennel Club, we’re in danger of losing some of Britain's oldest dog breeds.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Boxer and Border Terrier are no longer sitting pretty in the UK’s top ten dog breeds list with smaller breeds such as French Bulldogs and Miniature Dachshunds pipping them to the post.

With breeds like the European Pomeranian, Chinese Chow Chow and Japanese Shiba Inu becoming the next ‘it’ dog, the iconic British classics aren’t getting a look in. Luckily Welsh Corgis are enjoying a new spurt of popularity, but the Parsons Russell Terrier and West Highland Terrier could be in a spot of bother too.

I’m a vet… Get me out of here?

As we approach season 19 of I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of here, the concerns around animal welfare show no signs of quietening down.

Far from it in fact, as the British Veterinary Association (BVA) call for the producers to put a stop to the cruel treatment of animals throughout the show. According to the BVA, I’m a Celebrity has a long history of presenting distressed animals as entertainment.

The BVA represents over 18,000 vets across the UK, who will be joining a mass ‘I’m a Celeb’ switch-off this year.

Passenger loses 370,000 air miles for smuggling cat onto flight

A Russian passenger sneaked his rather podgy cat onto a flight, forcing the airline to revoke all 370,000 air miles he’s racked up over the years – ouch!

The airline does in fact welcome felines aboard that are 8kg or below, but poor Viktor the kitty comes in at 10kg, which means – technically – he should have flown in the luggage hold. But naturally, his owner felt he would be more comfortable flying upfront with him.

So he got creative, borrowing a decoy cat to clear the staff checks, before swapping the two felines back ahead of take-off. He almost got away with his cunning plan until the photos he posted went viral and the airline caught wind of his tricks and chose to close down his loyalty account as punishment.

The things we do for love, eh?

Think you know your dog’s age? Think again says new study

Researchers have debunked the myth that one dog year equals seven human years – and they’ve got a whole new formula to work it out once and for all.

Since different dog breeds have different life spans, it’s no easy task for scientists to give us a one-size-fits-all approach, but they’ve concluded that this is as close as they’ve ever been before!

Want to work out your dog’s age? Check it out here.
