The Lineup Just Got Bigger & Better
Lori Yates can take a blue note and bend it ‘til it breaks your heart. The Hamilton-based singer writes country-flavoured songs spiced with a dash of honkytonk and sells them with her powerhouse voice and flawless delivery. Enigmatic and enthralling, Yates has earned numerous accolades over the course of her 30-year career.
Shred Kelly has taken traditional folk and plugged it in to a 21st-century pop-rock sensibility. These five talented musicians based in Fernie, B.C., produce songs that blend driving rhythms with inventive and sometimes quirky lyrics. It makes for an unstoppable musical presence that’s superbly showcased in their highly engaging, high-octane stage shows.
Listening to Quique Escamilla the word “remarkable” comes to mind. And “joyful.” And “unique.” The Toronto-based troubadour who hails from Chiapas injects his songs with a Mexican shuffle, a rock backbeat and a social conscience. He’s a multi-instrumentalist who burst on the scene in 2011 and is winning a multitude of fans.
Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar serve up a mix of blues and soul as strong as vintage southern bourbon. With her raw, passionate vocals, songwriter Martin can conjure up the joy of a soaring heart or the pain of a love that’s torn and broken. Co-vocalists Sherie Marshall and Stacie Tabb complete an unforgettable vocal package.
