Greetings Tamensians. This is our final newsletter prior to Founders Weekend and so contains essential information if you are attending, as well as our usual updates on alumni and events. The news can be short and just a simple update. But in this day of networking having alumni as contacts and knowing what they are up to can be helpful. All news can be sent to

School News

Lord Williams’s had much to celebrate when A Level results were issued over the summer. The overall pass rate was higher than last year at 99% with 21% of grades at A* and A.

After years of going back and forth, a new estate is being built opposite the school on the Oxford Road. Farewell the piggies who used to snort happily on the fields.

School trips in October include visits to the Black Country, Thorpe Park and Weymouth. 

Sixth Form Awards Night is on 6 November.

The 'whole school' drama production in November is Little Shop of Horrors.

The Candle-Lit carol service this year will take place in St Mary's Church on Wednesday 16 December. 
Founder's and Reunion Day Timetable

Lots going on at Founder's Day this year including the unveiling of the new Roll of Honour Board and the restored originals. Please come and join us at this event and the rest of the day if you can.
The OTA Scratch choir will be putting on a performance and all are welcome to join - there will be a 'rehearsal' at 1400 in the school.
Mark Ansell is organising a major reunion of his year group, and they will be enjoying themselves on the school fields playing various games during the afternoon. Other reunions will be staying in the warmth of the school hall.

0845 St Mary’s Church Opens
0915 Founder's Day Service 
1015 Coffee at the school’s Foundation Centre, Oxford Road
1045 AGM of the Old Tamensians’s Association
1145 Unveiling of the new Rolls of Honour
1200: School tours
1230 Lunch and bar (cost £12). Music by students. (Please contact if you wish to book lunch.)
1345: Games commence including hockey and rugby
1400: Choir Rehearsal
1500: Entertainment by the scratch OTA choir
1530: Afternoon tea and raffle

Derrick Hester OBE

School – 1935 to 1942 Left Form 5 with good School Certificate, then a year of farm work,
prior to Reading University Degree Course  BSc Agric.
1946: Engaged by Brooke Bond as an Assistant Estates Manager. Sent to Trinidad. One year  post Grad course  in Tropical agriculture. Posted 1947 to BB Estates (10) in South West Tanzania – the largest tea estate in the country. Good Climate (6,000 ft ) 5000 acres of tea, 3 factories, 5000 work force. I managed different estates and then in 1974 I was made Chairman/ Managing Director  of the company. I served on Government Boards with tea interest including Research
I retired  in 1984 after 37 years and in 1983 I was awarded an OBE.- for services to the Tea industry and the British expatriate community.

There was a recent get together of old school pals from the mid-1940s: John Bishop, John Bennett, Eric Lambourne, John Hussey, Tim Dodwell, Robert Cadle and John Sharpley. They are looking forward to meeting up again on Founders Day and hope that others from their era will join us.
