Getting a Real Feel for the Space
On November 15th the Prairie Spruce Design Committee, used painter's tape to lay out the first and second floor spaces of Prairie Spruce’s Common House: dining room, kitchen, powder room, storage room, children’s play area, guest room (2) with bathroom, laundry room, and office. Similar to other mystical characters, Warren and his team worked late into the night to surprise the other Prairie Spruce members with a replica floor model of Prairie Spruce’s common spacesThe layout of the 3rd floor Common House amenities will be done sometime in the early new year.
Badham Boulevard 1st floor: main entrance, lounge, dinning room,
kitchen, guest room, powder room,  laundry, and office
 (pink spaces).
Warren instructed everyone to stay together so he could give a guided tour for our first walk-through of the spaces.   To check the rooms and spaces for size and versatility, members practiced yoga in the children’s play room, spread themselves around in the seating area of the dining room and visited, waved at each other with one person standing in the dining room and the other coming through the front door,  and went through the actions of preparing a meal.
Prairie Spruce includes 27 private units,
with full kitchens, plus a shared common kitchen.
We crowded into the kitchen to see how many could comfortably work; pondered the kitchen counter, the cupboard space, and their multiple uses; reviewed the size of guest bedroom* with flexibility to add a hide-a-bed; checked location of guest bed and bathroom doors; assessed space for three washers and dryers**; walked up and down stair cases; filled the roomy elevator to maximum capacity; observed the spacious entry ways and bench; and checked the locking doors at multiple locations for home security.

A sense of rapport, spirit, and excitement is shared among Prairie Spruce members, as we move towards the establishment of Regina’s first multi-generational cohousing community.
* Second guest bedroom is on the 2nd floor.
**All suites except studios and 1 bedroom are plumbed for washer and dryer

With the
new project sign on site and an imminent sales centre, we anticipate introducing many more people to Prairie Spruce Commons in 2015. Chris and I are pleased to welcome 2 new households to the Prairie Spruce community, bringing the total equity households to 13. Welcome JoAnne, Knud and Eva! What a great way to finish off 2014 on a high!
I spent a very nice afternoon with the community on Saturday November 22 reviewing our ongoing marketing plan for 2015. I’ll be in Regina again in January for another group workshop. Chris, on the other hand, will be in Regina in mid-December where he’ll be refining design and schedule details with
Fiorante Homes & Commercial. He also hopes to sip some hot cider with friends and members of Prairie Spruce on December 13.
The Neighbourhood
Prairie Spruce Commons' address is Badham Boulevard, a prime location for people who enjoy being close to the things they do. It is located just off Broad Street between College Avenue and Broadway Avenue across from Wascana Park and the CBC building. In a park-like area, residents will have access to downtown offices, businesses, malls, schools, entertainment, and hospital all within a 20 minute walk. Just across the street is the beautiful Wascana Park with many trails for walking, biking, or cross-country skiing -- trails that take you along the bird marshes and around the lake.

Check out this
detailed description of the services and walkability of the area
December 13, 2014
The Very Merry Prairie Spruce Christmas Open House is being held at the United Way (1440 Scarth Street) from 1pm to 3 pm.

There will be cider and Christmas goodies.  Please drop by and bring any friends who may be interested in learning more about Prairie Spruce. It is an opportunity to reconnect with people that we have not visited with for a while.

We look forward to seeing you.  Everyone is welcome!
The Prairie Spruce Sales Centre will be opening soon on the future Prairie Spruce Commons Badham Boulevard location.  Office hours will be posted soon. In the meanwhile, when you see the Sales Centre building, take a photo and put it on Facebook!  We would love to hear from you.
To the Design Committee!
Thank you! The exercise was invaluable as the up-to-scale floor mock-up gave members a clear picture of each of the spaces and the opportunity to discuss how each will be used and how all the common spaces relate to each other. Feedback was given to the Design Committee following the exercise. Comments and suggestions for possible adjustments will be discussed at a future general meeting and, following consensus, will be forwarded to the architect for consideration.
Nora and Malin checked out the Prairie Spruce lego house at Journey to the Heart of Community on November 9th.
Great music at Sharing for the Future event in late October.
Look for our Prairie Spruce Commons sign on vehicles around town.
Play is an important part of any creative activity. On November 15th we donned our 'thinking caps' to come up with more fun events to engage with the wider community.
It was great to visit the Wolf Willow Cohousing community in Saskatoon. Although Prairie Spruce Commons is Regina's first cohousing community, there are many other cohousing communities in Canada and across the world.
We look forward to growing this vibrant community with you!
