Plans for 2014-15

The South Coast FLPN annual work plan has been approved and submitted for the year 2014-15. Due to a reduction in funding, our activities have been reduced slightly but the good news is our website is up and running so we are better able to connect with our members and to help you to connect with one another.

A brief outline of activities planned for the year ahead are :

  • Finalising the new phone app that allows you to find comprehensive local referral information. This will be a joint a project with Illawarra/ Southern Highlands FLPN who plan to post a similar directory later in the year. That means that you will be able to facilitate warm referrals on the spot from court and during outreach interviews from your tablet, iphone or Android smart phones. We will let you know when the app is up and running.
  • We will be hosting two meetings in the far south of the region this year. One will be an MCLE seminar directed at legal practitioners and will be incorporated into the CLSD annual far south meeting October 29 in Bega. The second will be an interagency style info sharing meeting at the Moruya Community Hub in May 2015.
  • Our annual Judicial dinner is again planned for March/ April. The sitting Wollongong Judge is invited as guest speaker. Attendance is by invitation and is restricted to lawyers, CEO’s, MPs and senior Managers of post separation services in our region.
  • We are building the online referral directory content and need your program service info! Emails will be circulated shortly to remind people and a blank template will be provided. The directory will be the first point of access for family law referrals, so please include your programs and services. ( This is a peer to peer directory, not a general public directory.)
  • The ebulletin will continue as a monthly publication. It includes waiting list information, local sector news, professional development, info sharing and term flyers. Importantly, it links to the website where we post all your program info brochures and further contact details, it’s a fabulous resource that keeps all local family law service program info in one accessible location. You’ll notice that the ebulletin is now more streamlined containing time sensitive information only. Please let us know how we can continue to improve the format.
  • Working collaboratively with CLSD and other interested agencies, we are looking into supporting the introduction of shared videoconferencing facilities in the far south. This is part of the planned roll-out of support systems to assist those services and staff operating in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley LGAs.
  • We are currently in the process of writing an evaluation report for AGD on the 2013 UOW funded, public schools project, where we worked together with UOW Law and Department of Education and Communities to deliver a series of live webinars and supplementary material to public schools in the region. We have since included early childhood service providers and continue to deliver family law cross sector training to educators. The webinars and kits can be access via our website.
  • We’ll be facilitating a ‘Family Law for Community Workers’ information seminar for generalist community workers in the region, targeting indigenous and CALD workers and organisations. Planned for October.
  • We are continuing to support the Family Court Action Group in ongoing discussions with the Family Court on improving access to court by people living on the south coast, especially the most vulnerable.
  • Our facebook page is updated weekly with latest news and also local news, conversation and event photos. Please ‘like’ us and say hi !
  • There will also be more behind the scenes administrative happenings as we update our Terms of Reference and build the website, so we may seem quieter this year but like a duck on water we are paddling like mad to keep up !
