A Letter from pastor Nicole
Summer greetings to you in our beautiful Windsor community. This June at our special congregational meeting, we are formalizing what has been the general order of things: our “year” is a program year that runs from fall to spring, instead of Jan through December. This seems like a small change to me, since this is how I do church planning anyway. Every church and organization I know runs in this manner. But for a church like ours that is accustomed to being tied to tradition and history, sometimes we think that means we don’t like change. I actually think it should be the exact opposite. Celebrate Juneteenth at Hopewell Baptist Church - 280 Windsor Ave
At the invitation of Rev. David Massey, FCW is invited to celebrate Juneteenth by worshiping together at Hopewell Baptist Church. The Deacons all agree that worshiping together would be such a positive gesture of Christian unity, that we will NOT have worship in the FCW meetinghouse on June 19. Those who wish to carpool together to Hopewell Baptist, should meet in the FCW parking lot by 9:45 a.m. The service is at 10 am and will be livestreamed on Facebook. We will share a link to their livestream in our weekly email. Hopewell practices social distancing and masking at their church. If you have any questions, please reach out to Pastor Nicole. Friends,
My husband, Ted, and I are expecting our second baby – a little boy – around June 11. We are so excited to meet him and for our little girl to become a big sister. Although the thought of two babies under two is a little daunting, we are so looking forward to watching them play and grow together. When the new baby arrives, I will be taking my sick and vacation time and will be away for a little over two weeks. I will respond to voicemails and emails when I return, but should you urgently need to speak to someone while I am away, please contact Pastor Nicole at (860) 990-2291.
College Scholarship Recipients
Congratulations to our college scholarship recipients. We will be awarding scholarships and celebrating our graduates on June 12. Funding for First Church scholarships comes from bequests by Florence Mills, Robert Belden, Sanford Sloan, Beatrice B. Berlin and Pearl Tiffany, and other members, past and present, who understand the importance of education. We honor their memories with these scholarships.

Hymn Sing Sunday
Jane Frogley, Director of Music
On July 3 we will have a congregational hymn sing in place of the sermon, and it’s up to YOU to choose what we sing! Unfortunately, we can’t just call out our favorites on the day, because we need time to make slides of the lyrics. Please let me of your request by email or by giving me a note in person. Let me know what hymn you want, whether from the New Century or the Pilgrim Hymnal, and what 2 verses if you have a preference. We need your requests no later than June 26. We can’t promise that we’ll get to them all, but we’ll do our best!
Blessing of the Backpacks
This year we will once again gather backpacks and school supplies for children in need in our community through Covenant to Care. On Sunday, July 10 we will hold a Blessing of the Backpacks during worship before we send them off. Please consider supporting this important cause by making a donation online here or by purchasing supplies (listed below). United Church of Christ
Notice is hereby given that on June 5, 2022, a meeting of the members of First Church in Windsor, United Church of Christ (“Church”) will take place pursuant to Article VII. B of the Church’s By-Laws.  This meeting will be used to transact the following four pieces of business for the Church.

1. To approve the nominations recommended by the Nominating Committee and the Cabinet to fill positions on boards and committees.

2. To amend the By-Laws of the Church, by a two-thirds vote of the active members present at this meeting to change the official year and the fiscal year of the Church to a year of July 1 of a given year to June 30 of the following year.  Specifically, this will require the amendment of Articles VII. A., VII C., and X. A. of the By-Laws.

3. To amend the Article VII. A. of the By-Laws of the Church, by a two-thirds vote of the active members present at this meeting to require that the Annual Meeting of the Church be held in May of each year.

4. To provide for a one-time augmentation of the budget requirements of Article X. B., which requires submission of an annual budget to be voted upon by the Church’s members at the Annual Meeting.  This change is requested in recognition of the proposed alteration to the Church’s fiscal calendar.

Accordingly, the Cabinet recommends passage of the following resolutions:

Resolution One:
WHEREAS the Church’s Cabinet suggested changing the fiscal and official years of the Church from a calendar year approach to an approach that more closely aligns with the church’s programming on a school year basis and allows time for new members of boards and committees to become acclimated to their positions before the program year begins each September,
WHEREAS at the Church’s Annual Meeting held on February 13, 2022, the members of the Church voted to approve considering a change to the Church’s official and fiscal calendar as referenced in the Church’s By-Laws to facilitate a more programmatic based official year, and
WHEREAS the Cabinet has considered the question of the appropriate calendaring of Church activities and has recommended to the Church that the Church amend its By-Laws to change the official year of the Church and the fiscal year of the Church to a year running from July 1 of a given year to June 30 of the following year,
NOW THEREFORE the members of the Church vote to amend Articles VII. A., VII C., and X. A. of the By-Laws of the Church as presented at the June 5, 2022 Meeting to make the official year of the Church and the fiscal year of the Church to a year running from July 1 of a given year to June 30 of the following year.

Resolution Two:
WHEREAS the Church’s Cabinet suggested changing the fiscal and official years of the Church from a calendar year approach to an approach that more closely aligns with the church’s programming on a school year basis and allows time for new members of boards and committees to become acclimated to their positions before the program year begins each September,
WHEREAS at the Church’s Annual Meeting held on February 13, 2022, the members of the Church voted to approve considering a change to the Church’s official and fiscal calendar as referenced in the Church’s By-Laws to facilitate a more programmatic based official year, and
WHEREAS the Cabinet has considered the question of the appropriate calendaring of Church activities and has recommended to the Church that the Church amend its By-Laws to change the official year of the Church and the fiscal year of the Church to a year running from July 1 of a given year to June 30 of the following year,
NOW THEREFORE the members of the Church vote to amend the Article VII. A. of the By-Laws of the Church as presented at the June 5, 2022, Meeting to require that the Annual Meeting of the Church be held in May of each year.

Resolution Three:
WHEREAS the Church approved its budget through December 31, 2022, at the Church’s Annual Meeting held on February 13, 2022.
WHEREAS the Church amended its By-Laws at a Meeting of the Church held on June 5, 2022, to change the fiscal year of the Church to a year running from July 1 of a given year to June 30 of the following year; and
WHEREAS the Church will not have an approved budget for the period of January 1, 2023, through June 30, 2023,
NOW THEREFORE the members of the Church vote approve a budget for the period of July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, as presented at the June 5, 2022 Meeting.
