Turkey and Syria Earthquake Appeal
|
|
The news continues to unfold about the devastating earthquake on the border of Turkey and Syria. The death toll continues to rise – numbers are pointing to over 11,000 – depending on the source. This is shattering news and adds to the challenges of the war in this area for over a decade.
Immediately after the earthquake, the UCC posted a prayer and short statement in response to this crisis. While the earthquake was on the border, the tremors were felt as far away as Lebanon and Cyprus. At this time, we are issuing an appeal to help recovery efforts in Turkey and Syria. It is hard to tell what other areas are affected or the extent of the damage from this seismic event.
Amid this current uncertainty, you can be certain that with your financial support, the United Church of Christ will be there helping those in need. Give online HERE. You may also text UCCDISASTER to 41444.

Troop 203, which is the Scout troop sponsored by First Church, is bringing back its annual pasta dinner this month after a two-year hiatus. After all, who doesn’t love a good dinner of pasta, meatballs, garlic bread, and salad? The dinner will take place on Saturday, February 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Nelson Hall. We will be happy to seat diners at our tables in Nelson Hall, or we will prepare carry-out boxes for those who prefer to eat their pasta at home.
There’s no need to purchase tickets in advance; all ticket sales will be at the door on the day of the event. Dinners are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12, and seniors. In addition to the pasta dinner, dessert, and coffee will be served.
All proceeds from the pasta dinner will go to support the Troop’s activities throughout the year, including camping trips to Battleship Cove, Hammonasset Beach, and campsites from New Jersey through Maine. Troop 203 thanks you in advance for your support of this event and all First Church does to support Scouting.
