Annual Meeting and Spring Fling is April 30th!
View this email in your browser
Dear SDPCA members & friends,

Happy March!  With the warm weather, and spring right around the corner, we are gearing up for our annual meeting/Spring Fling (April 30)!  As always, we love to hear your ideas and feedback as our group is open to change and growth. Join us!  Details are in this newsletter.

You may have already noticed that we have some new systems in place.  When an event involves a third-party such as a restaurant for our ethnic dinners, we are obligated to provide an accurate headcount and follow through on our commitment.  SDPCA has to pay for no-shows or last minute cancellations and this is why RSVPs will now be confirmed only once payment is submitted through our secure PayPal account.  Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at president@sdpca.org.

We still have many more fun events coming up - and this is Peace Corps Week (February 29 to March 6).   This is a great time to reflect on your service and connect with your fellow RPCVs. Hope to see you at an event soon!

Peace,
Heather Ginsky
SDPCA President,  Peru (2010-11)

Peace Corps Day of Action -
Tell your Senators and Congressperson to Support Peace Corps!

Today (March 3) is the day to let your representatives know that you support Peace Corps and that you want them to, too.  RPCVs from across the nation are contacting their Congresspersons by email or in person to encourage them to strongly support the Peace Corps during the upcoming budget discussion. You can do your part by sending a letter to your local representatives. Click here to complete and email a letter to your Senators and Congressperson. Your efforts will make a difference!
ISF Grantee Report: Stoves in Panama

Christina Edsall, Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama, sent the following update on her project which received funding from the SDPCA International Support Fund.

I wanted to thank you as donors to my project: Advanced cook technology in Panama. With your help, I was able to raise funds quickly finish my project successfully.

Including the 10 families, 3 public venues were also beneficiaries of the stoves. A total of 137 people will benefit from the new cook stoves.

Thank you so much for helping us volunteers help our host countries and communities.
Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet spoke at UCSD on February 23 to prospective PCVs. RPCVs, and San Diego community members.  She is a fourth generation volunteer too!  She emphasized how important it is to reach out to our Congresspeople during Advocacy Week ( which is NOW).  This year (fiscal 2016) Peace Corps received the largest budget yet and  hope to do the same for 2017.

PAST EVENTS
El Salvadoran Dinner

A hearty group of RPCVs braved the rain to meet at Cascatlan in downtown Escondido on January 7.  The hungry crowd enjoyed a sampling of dishes from El Salvador and took the time to get to know each other. It was a wonderful evening!
Dim Sum

On Saturday, February 6th,  SDPCA rang in the Lunar New Year (just a tiny bit early) with a full dim sum brunch in the Convoy Area. We greatly enjoyed the food and hospitality of the Imperial Mandarin Restaurant at 3904 Convoy Street.  We were able to welcome some newly returned volunteers and enjoyed reconnecting as a group.

Happy Year of the Monkey!

Happy Hour - South African Style!

February 19 was a great evening at the CapeTown Grill when SDPCA members enjoyed South African fusion cuisine, wonderful company, and unique decor!

If you weren't able to make it, by all accounts this is a place you should check out!  CapetownGrill.com

Urban India

To make sure Peace Corps Week got off to a good start, a lively group of volunteers met up to discuss advocacy and feast on delicious Indian food at Urban India in downtown San Diego. It was great to have some new members there and of course, to hear the many stories that were shared!
