book signing at nothin' crazy, dartmouth, ma
Book signing at Nothin' Crazy, Padanaram Village, Dartmouth, Massachusetts
It's been a lovely couple of months filled with seaside book events but with just weeks to go 'til school starts for my boys, I hope to squeeze in as many trips to the beach as possible (of course, they're happiest just hanging around in their pajamas, drawing and watching TV). Still, as I recently read somewhere, August indeed feels like the Sunday of summer.

Wishing you a slow-moving rest of the month ...

isn't it romantic

elyse major, favorites, romantic homes, sept '14
Was I ever excited when the invitation came from the editor of Romantic Homes to assemble a list of treasured things for the magazine's monthly favorites feature.

The icing on the cake is the opportunity the page provides to shine a national spotlight on the small businesses of friends such as Sea Rose Cottage, Sugar Pink Boutique, Rhode Island Soapworks and Nest Pretty Things, among others.

backyard meets seaside

when matthew met elyse
It was Backyard Style meets seaside tinkered treasures when style guru Matthew Mead and I hatched a plan to meet for "sandwiches in Sandwich" while he was shooting and styling along with his wife Jenny on Cape Cod. Over avocado BLTs on croissants (yum) at Cafe Chew, we shared stories and laughs and plan to collaborate somehow in the near future -- which will most likely include a signed copy giveaway of our books. It was quite the pinch-me afternoon as I'm a longtime admirer of Matthew's fresh spin on style and decor.

FANCY THIS
{seashell pasta vase}

I remember making a Father's Day gift in elementary school by gluing elbow macaroni to a can and the teacher finishing it off with a covering of gold spray paint. {So fancy!} That pretty much sums up how to make this coastal charmer that doesn't rely on beach-combing but a trip to the market instead. Step-by-step instructions are available at the first of my Camp Tinker blog post series. Click here!

on a roll: wallpapered blinds

romantic homes, sept '14
Even after creating over a dozen make it features for Romantic Homes, it's still such a thrill to see my images and text distilled into the final designed publication. In the just-out September issue, find my tutorial for wallpapered blinds. If you follow my blog, notice that I "made good" on painting the back door blue! {backstory}

It was a bit tricky to photograph the blinds due to either too much or too little light so fortunately my photog-pal Marisa Bettencourt came to my rescue one morning to help.
