A FRIENDLY FACE

Linda Landau. For almost 30 years, retired CPA Linda Landau has been a part of the Friends of the Orinda Library. In her current role as Treasurer, you could say she keeps the books for the books. A former school board member, Linda says it was her passion for education that first drew her to Orinda Library. Selected 2010 Orinda Citizen of the Year, Linda is never doing just one thing. Currently, in addition to her work overseeing the Friends' finances, she is organizing our efforts to support a parcel tax to fund extended hours and maintenance for the library. She also works as a docent for the UC Botanical Garden and is active in the Stanford Women's Club. On her nightstand: Oliver Sacks’ memoir, On the Move.

Tools You Can Use

LIBBY

Let the Library Come to You

With the library closed for the first part of the month, now is the perfect time to borrow books electronically.

One option: Download the Libby app for free on your smart phone or reading device, and enter your library card number to access audio and digital reads.

Alternatively:
Get started by clicking on the Overdrive app on the left side of the library website.

Browsers' tip: Items are listed by popularity, so don't be surprised if the first ones you see are already checked out. You can either place a hold, or if you're ready to read immediately, just scroll down for available titles. Limit: 5 books at a time.

2018 Poul Anderson

CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST

The Friends of the Library are now accepting submissions for the 2018 Poul Anderson Creative Writing Contest, open to all students who reside and/or attend high school in Orinda.

This year, the Friends have doubled the prize money to $500 apiece for up to 4 students with winning submissions in the following categories: Science Fiction/Fantasy, Essay/Memoir/Biography, Poetry and Short Story.

Awards will go to the works judged best. There will not necessarily be one award in each category.

Students may submit one entry in any of the four categories for a total of no more than three entries. Submission deadline is Friday, April 20 at noon.

Download an entry form.

The late Poul Anderson was a popular science fiction writer, Orinda resident and friend to the community.
