The Jungle Babbler - Tropical Birding's newsletter

March 14, 2017

Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter! We're highlighting a great tour to Peru in Aug-Sep, as well as providing tour status updates, new tours, new trip reports, and upcoming events.

TOUR SPOTLIGHT:

PERU - MANU AND MACHU PICCHU

Join us on a fabulous trip to the mountains, cloudforests, and lowland Amazonian rainforests of Southeast Peru! This area has a staggering diversity of birds (it's not unusual to see over 600 species) and other wildlife which we will enjoy from a nice selection of eco-lodges and hotels. We start our birding in Cusco and do easy birding nearby to acclimatize to the altitude, then spend several days traversing the famous Manu road for a terrific assortment of colorful birds like hummingbirds, tanagers, quetzals, toucans, and of course Andean Cock-of-the-rock. We'll then use boats to visit two different lodges along the Madre de Dios River (a tributary of the Amazon), with a whole different selection of birds as well as a clay lick frequented by parrots, parakeets, and Red-and-green Macaws.

Upon returning from the Amazon, we head to the Sacred Valley and spend a day birding the high mountains nearby, where on a clear day the scenery is spectacular, dominated by snow-capped, rocky peaks. A visit to the famous ruins of Machu Picchu adds a dash of culture to this trip, as well as a few  new birds, before we finally fly back to Lima. We'll have most of a day to see some coastal and desert birds before the trip comes to a close.
