PENINSULA'S CHALET DE NING
SWISS-THEMED ROOFTOP

Experience the magic of the Swiss Alps in the heart of Manhattan at the Peninsula’s Chalet de Ning. The Swiss-inspired rooftop experience in collaboration with the Swiss Badrutt's Palace Hotel and St. Moritz Tourism brings the acclaimed winter glitz and spirit of St. Moritz to Fifth Avenue. Adapted to the season, the décor of the rooftop lounge is reflective of a chic ski lodge, with vintage posters and ski equipment as well as Swiss Alp essentials such as snow shoes, iconic cow bells and snow-topped trees set against the backdrop of Manhattan’s skyline. Enjoy through December 31.

KIRAN KUZHIPPALLIL RECOMMENDS
SWISS ARTIST COLLECTIVE SCHWARZMALER

Hello everyone. I'm Kiran, the current intern at the Public Diplomacy division at the Swiss Consulate. I've only been in New York for a few months, but the sheer amount and variety of things I've experienced make it seem like a lifetime. I'm continously amazed by the incredible abundance of high-profile art one can find in this cultural melting pot. For my staff pick, I would like to focus on the often underrated art form of street art. Through artists like Banksy, graffiti moves between counterculture and mainstream, but especially in big cities like New York, graffiti artists continue to challenge traditional notions of art, value, space, and ownership. In this context, the Swiss artist collective Schwarzmaler has managed to leave their distinctive footprint on an international scale. Their work "Eat and Be Eaten" was lost when the world famous 5pointz building in Queens was demolished but Schwarzmaler's founding member Kkade’s mural can still be seen in Brooklyn.
