April Meeting Highlights 
Hello neighbors!

April 5, 2021, Brookwood Place HOA Board held its Monthly Meeting via socially distanced in-person and also on Zoom for those who could not attend in-person.  In attendance, both in-person and Zoom, were 2021 Board members: Thom Tomlinson, Ron Davis, Michelle Kring, Denise Fast and Ashley Shadel.

Topics of discussion included: 
  • Pool is scheduled to open on Memorial Day and an ice cream truck is scheduled to visit to kick off the summer pool season (see below)
  • Neighborhood garage sale weekend proposed for June 11 & 12 with bulky item pick-up scheduled the following Tuesday, June 15
  • Current neighborhood architecture requests
  • Pool security system
  • No motions were passed during March's meeting on HOA issues and general board operations (full meeting details are in the current minutes; Minutes will be reviewed, corrected and approved at the next board meeting)
  • Treasurer provided an overview of the financials (all dues have been paid)
  • Establishing a BWP Neighborhood Volunteer List for future neighborhood needs; If you are interested, contact Thom Tomlinson
  • Establishing a BWP Vision Committee to help guide the Board in assessing future needs for our neighborhood; If you are interested in serving on this committee, contact Thom Tomlinson for more information

Board Position Vacancy

Brookwood Place Board Secretary
Treka Henry has vacated her position as BWP Board Secretary and we thank her for her years of service! We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. The role of the secretary is to attend board meetings (once per month), take minutes, monitor BWP email account and website and send the monthly newsletter. Contact Thom Tomlinson at for more information! 
Social Committee 
THANK YOU for an amazing turnout for this year's Easter Egg Hunt! We had approximately 40 kids participate with over 500 eggs hidden and found! Also, a special thanks to the social committee for that egg hiding and to John Erickson for his photography skills. Check out our neighborhood Facebook page to see those great photos! 

Next up... Summer kick-off! One More Scoop Ice Cream Truck will be visiting our pool parking lot to help us kick off our pool season.

Spring cleaning? Mark your calendar for our neighborhood garage sales Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12. We will advertise on social media and post signage the week prior.

Architecture Reminders 
Wanting to make updates to your home?  Great! 
In order to ensure the work aligns with our Bylaws, residents must remember to contact the Architecture Chairperson regarding any exterior changes.  Projects must be approved by the architecture committee before the work begins, EVEN IF YOU'VE OBTAINED APPROVAL FROM THE CITY.  This includes any exterior changes or additions, new roofs, fences, landscape changes, driveways, patios, decks, painting the exterior of your home (even if it is the same color choice) and any project for the outside of your home.  Bylaws can be found here.

Wondering what requires a building permit?

According to the City of Lenexa website, any remodeling or construction projects in your home that relate to framing, electrical, mechanical or plumbing require a building permit.  Cosmetic changes such as painting, cabinetry, carpeting, siding, lawn sprinklers and landscaping improvements do not require a permit.  For additional information, please refer to the City's Remodeling Project Permits website. Please keep in mind any permits obtained from the city will also need approval from the board.

Advertise With Us
BWP Residents' children can advertise their services in the monthly newsletter free of charge. We will have a section with the child's name, contact info, and services offered (ie: mowing, babysitting, etc.) If a more extensive ad is wanted, a regular ad (see below) can be purchased. Our regular advertising will continue to be offered. If you have a business or service that you wish to advertise to our neighborhood, please consider using our newsletter as the advertising avenue. The BWP resident costs are quite low and will reach all of our BWP residents.
