National Conference for College Women Student Leaders 2014

AAUW and NASPA have announced the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) dates for 2014. This year’s event will be held on June 5-7 at the University of Maryland, College Park. An expected 1000 students will have an opportunity to meet some outstanding women of distinction and to choose from among fifty workshops helping them to enhance their leadership skills and prepare for life after college. Early Bird registration runs from January 30-April 10 and costs $395 including most meals and housing. Registration after that time will cost $445.  Registration and additional details may be found at ncccwsl.org.

Branches wishing to help sponsor a student from a College/University Partner institution are encouraged to do so. AAUW CT has earmarked $4,000 for NCCWSL scholarships and are offering matching grants to branches on a first come first served basis. Branches are asked to submit grant application requests by March 24. Branch leaders should have all received the application form from Mary Ann Kistner, Steering Committee Branch Liaison. For additional information please contact Lin Rising at melindarising@ymail.com.

Colleges and University Partner institutions are encouraged to send representatives to this event described as “life changing” by many NCCWSL alumnae. Colleges sending four or more students receive a discount. National scholarships are available for qualified students demonstrating need and AAUW CT provides scholarship opportunities as well.  The Carol R. VIrostek scholarship is offered annually to a student affiliated with a Women’s Center at University of Connecticut or Central Connecticut State University in alternating years.  A college hosting the annual College/University Partnership Fall Conference receives one scholarship and the college with the largest e-student affiliate membership increase also receives a $395 scholarship. As indicated above, many AAUW CT branches partner with AAUW CT to sponsor student attendance at NCCWSL. Those scholarships usually amount to $500 per student.

Students receiving scholarships are expected to attend all events while attending the conference and are asked to participate in the Fall College/University Conference activities.
