Hello Primadonnas! Welcome to the long weekend!

It's another sunny Bank Holiday but no one here at Primadonna HQ is slowing down!

Here at Primadonna, we're busy building an unbeatable programme of events in association with the very brightest voices in the arts today - whether they're speaking, debating, singing or cracking wise, we're taking up space and reclaiming our time for women and non-binary people everywhere
(plus kids, men, kids, dogs...)

Introducing some of the amazing acts you can expect to see at Primadonna Fest!
Echoing a central theme of the Festival - “If you want something done right, do it yourself", we're featuring the accomplished, eclectic ROKKY. She's a self-taught musician who speaks an impressive SIX languages and she's bringing her unique tapestry of influences from garage, sensuous French lyrics and Berlin electro to light up Primadonna's stage. Wait, what? Check our her new single here.  Grab a glowstick and get set for a good time.
Adele Parks' first novel Playing Away, featuring her ruthlessly independent and witty protagonist Jocasta, made her an Evening Standard One To Watch on its debut. Adele Parks has continued to write powerful, cerebral heroines ever since. We're thrilled to be welcoming Adele to talk to us about switching genres, discussing the impact of genre on women's writing and how to shake it off. As a woman who is rarely far from a bestseller list, an honorary doctor of Letters who has never compromised in fulfilling her potential, she's sure to inspire with her insights on what it means to be a woman at the very top of publishing.
Just to really emphasise that we're committed to burning down the patriarchy - we're having a late night campfire screening of surrealist, feminist classic The Seashell and the Clergyman, directed by one of the only women making films in the silent era, Germaine Dulac.
This will be accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack created and performed live by local legends the Deben Collective.   The BPI say this film is a feminist classic but see if you agree.  A bra gets burned that's for sure. In fact let's have a ceremonial bra burning. Literally. On the campfire!

Friday night is SCAVENGER HUNT niiiight!
for kids of all ages.  Run around the festival site, find treasures, follow clues.  Glittering prizes await those who meet all the challenges our dastardly dictators determine.
In an amazing coup, we're bringing you Lennie Goodings, former chair of Virago press and publisher extraordinaire. During her illustrious 20 year career at Virago, Lennie published the doyens of women's literature, such as works by Margaret Atwood, Sarah Waters, Naomi Wolf, Sarah Dunant and our very own Primadonna Sandi Toksvig. Lennie will be appearing on panels and giving advice to budding writers.  Under her eye.
With great power comes great responsibility. And where power breeds injustice, women have always taken up their tools to fight back - and feminist punk/indie darlings Graceland are no exception. With edgy indie hooks, killer basslines and great voices, this mature-past-their-years outfit are bringing their no-nonsense style, not to mention their hilarious between-song banter, to Primadonna to challenge, experiment and rock out.
Just a little humblebrag pic of our dedicated #busyprimadonnas showing off our INCREDIBLE logo on our brand new tshirts. So good.  Every one of these women (and the others who couldn't make this photoshoot) will be holding a surgery over the course of the weekend and will be available to hand out writing/publishing/careers advice & anecdotes, camping tips, bad jokes and general entertainment.

And because inclusivity is the name of the game here, you too can snap up one of these beauts (we mean the T-shirts, obvs) and support the cause of the first and best inclusive & affordable literature festival of the summer over at
We'll be taking care of your wellbeing at Primadonna. Kelly will be running pelvic floor sessions (not just for women she hastens to point out!). For those who like to start the morning with a good stretch, we've got you covered. We're going to be limbering up with Sarah in the mornings in our special morning sessions. See our website for further details closer to the date. Others of you who like a long snooze, no worries there's no megaphone involved. That would be weird.
Don't forget to tell us what you think of what we've got planned and how we can make Primadonna inclusive and accessible for you. Get in touch on social media using the hashtags #Primadonna #PrimadonnaFest with your thoughts.

Alongside our excellent lineup, we're also perfecting the little things that no festival would be complete without - like mouthwatering food, cheap beer, gorgeous Suffolk surroundings and (hopefully) lashings of sunshine!
