this week's newsletter: quick hits
We're on our way to North Carolina, so this is a short one.

Our Milkfed retreat is coming up -- June 26th, I believe -- and one of the topics we want to cover is this newsletter and how we could make it of more use or interest to you. If you have thoughts to that end, please email us at between now and then.

Thank you!
Team Milkfed will be at HeroesCon this weekend, June 16-18! Our schedule, plus info on where to find us & our Milkfed collaborators at the show, is here -- come say hi!

ALSO: We've got tickets to the 7pm showing of WONDER WOMAN at the Studio Movie Grill at the EpiCentre in Charlotte on Thursday, June 15th. (No, we haven't seen it yet!) Tickets are still available if you'd like to join us.
At Your Local Comic Shop This Week:

BITCH PLANET: TRIPLE FEATURE #1, the first installment of the BITCH PLANET anthology series, is in comic stores and on digital platforms TOMORROW, June 14! The first issue features stories by Cheryl Lynn Eaton & Maria Fröhlich, Andrew Aydin & Joanna Estep, and Conley Lyons & Craig Yeung with Marco D'Alfonso. All lettering by Clayton "Ace" Cowles.

This is the one of five anthology issues: FIFTEEN all-new Bitch Planet stories total, each by a different fresh and exciting creative team, their stories developed with Kelly Sue, Valentine and the Bitch Planet team. We hope you'll check it out.

If you're not familiar with the #VisibleWomen initiative, about twice a year, usually in February and August, Kelly Sue turns her Twitter feed over to signal boost the portfolios of women and non-binary comic book artists under the hashtag #VisibleWomen. In addition to the feed, there is also a spreadsheet including the portfolio links that is available, free of charge, to any hiring professional in the comic book industry.  We'll be doing another #VisibleWomen August 7th, so now's the time to start getting those portfolios in order. As promised, we're opening it up to women and non-binary letterers and colorists this go-round. We're still trying to figure out a way to include writers (online resumes?), hit us up at if you have ideas.

Kel periscope'd her Powell's haul night before last.

A LitHub report from WisCon.

From the New York Times: The 25 Best Films of the 21st Century. So Far.

Chris Thompson on Bitch Planet and The Handmaid's Tale on The Chronicles of Nonsense: Another Case for Reading Bitch Planet.

"Decentering the sexual aggressor: sexual violence, trigger warnings and Bitch Planet." Bitch Planet in the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics. (Note: the academic paper is behind a paywall.)

A GoFundMe to preserve Portland's Alberta Rose Theatre.

Y'all are familiar with our Ace letterer Clayton Cowles, yeah? Did you know his dad is this guy? Talent clearly runs in that family.
  • HUGE thanks to everyone who supported the Worldbuilders Geeks Doing Good fundraiser by pre-ordering Bitch Planet, Sex Crims and #bgsdlist merch. Final fundraising total was an astonishing $239,872 -- more than 500 percent of the $42k goal. If you missed out, we're working on adding Milkfed merch as a regular part of the Worldbuilders Tinker's packs. Stay tuned.
  • Big thanks as well to everyone who turned out to Powell's for the Bitch Planet Vol. 2 release signing and conversation with Chelsea Cain (Mockingbird, One Kick) and Lidia Yuknavitch (The Book of Joan, The Small Backs of Children). (Chelsea and Lidia came out on a lovely Saturday, when I'm certain they more fun things to do, to ensure that I wouldn't have to do the event alone and I am intensely grateful. They are as generous as they are talented and that's obscenely so. -- Kelly Sue)
  • Thanks too to the lovely young person from Badali Jewelry who brought CHOCOLATES. You get me. -- Kelly Sue
