2019 was another banner year for the Friends of WCPD, and our collaborations in the community continued as we provided new levels of outreach to individuals and organizations in Warren County and beyond.
You can read our official 2019 Annual Report and Nature Recap in full on our website. Below are some of the highlights.
Great Backyard Bird Count: Hisey Park was the hot spot again this year in Warren County with 35 species of birds identified. The next GBBC at Hisey will be held on 2/15 and 2/16/20. Details to come soon!
5K Family Fun Runs: Dozens of park patrons and visitors enjoyed our 5K run/walk programs at Warren County Armco Park.
Hisey Fall Festival: Our 14th annual Fall Fest was a huge hit with the community.

Tech-Free Tuesdays: Over 1,200 participants enjoyed our free children’s programs last summer!
100-Hours-Outside Challenge: 46 children were awarded prizes for spending at least 100 hours unplugged and outside this past summer.
Coyotes: We helped several community groups understand how to keep their pets safe while learning to coexist with one of Ohio’s most misunderstood predators.
|
|
Program Reptiles: Our reptiles met with hundreds of community members last year, helping the public learn about native wildlife.
Nature Nurses Wildlife Rescue: We formed a new partnership with NNWR, volunteers who are permitted to assist injured and abandoned native animals. Their hotline is 513-601-9617.
Programs for Retirees: We worked with scores of retirees this year through Otterbein Senior Life of Lebanon, and Miami University’s Institute of Learning in Retirement.

|
Pollinator Garden and Accessible Trail at Landen-Deerfield Park: There is a new wheelchair- and stroller-friendly path enhanced by a native wildflower planting and beautiful sculptural art by Amy Lynn Johnson and Lynn Baird.
Solar/Pollinator Habitat at WC Armco Park: Solar panels are now providing power to all of WC Armco Park, and are complemented by a 1.5 acre pollinator habitat. Work will begin on a new self-guided Discovery Trail in the new year!
Programs for 2020: We have already started lining up programs for the upcoming year. If you have a request for an outreach program for your group in Warren County, or if you are interested in volunteering, please drop us a line; we would love to work with you!
