Welcome                                                                            Edition 15 - 4/9/15

Well the 15s season is done and dusted with both the junior and senior presentation nights being held last weekend. Congratulations to all award winners and many thanks to all those who helped out in ensuring both nights were successful and enjoyable evenings.  It's now time for a short break from rugby before the 7s season commences - further details about the 7s are on the  noticeboard below.

Many of you would have heard the fantastic news this week that former Palmerston junior Tawera (Narada) Kerr-Barlow has been named in the All Black's World Cup Squad. This is an absolutely phenomenal achievement, especially given that just over a year ago Tawera's rugby career almost ended due to serious injury (read the story here).

It is with regret that the club accepted A Grade coach Stan Carne’s resignation this week.  Stan was new to the club this year, bringing with him fresh ideas and putting in a huge effort throughout the season.  Stan has advised that due to personnel and professional commitments he is unable to continue his coaching role.  We wish him all the best and remind him that he is always welcome down at Palmerston.

And on a final note, all the best to junior players Wiremu Taurima, Raymond Bosman and Mitchell Brady who are currently training hard with the NT Under 12s in readiness for their tour to NSW in October. Good luck and all the best for a great tour!

Ben Blyton
Club President

Senior Presentation Night - Saturday 29 August 2015
Senior Presentation
Senior Presentation
The Senior Presentation Night was held at the clubhouse this year and although the event was smaller than the last few we have had, everyone who turned up had a good time. The club would like to thank special guests Nathan Barrett MLA and his wife Rebecca for coming along and we hope they enjoyed the night. Other special guests included Life Members and Past Presidents Garry Russell and Dave Ley (also a major sponsor), Life Members Wendy Leach and Ned and Pauline Wyles-Kelly, sponsor James Ballantyne (Outback and Beyond Camper Trailers), and of course all our amazing coaches, managers and sports trainers, committee members, players' partners and the players' themselves.
Well done to all players for their efforts over the season, and a special congratulations to those players who were leaders in their respective grades, in particular A Grade Best and Fairest winner Michael Killiner, B Grade Best and Fairest winner Brendan Cathcart and the Leach Award: Most Promising Junior Award winner Thomas Roe.

Although season 2016 wasn't the best of seasons for our seniors, hopefully we'll see you all back next year for a bigger and better season 2016. The potential is there, let's make it happen.

Junior Presentation Night - Friday 28 August 2015
Junior Presentation
There was a big crowd at the Junior Presentation Night to celebrate what was a great season of rugby for the juniors. Players in all teams, from Under 5s through to Under 15s, showed considerable improvement throughout the season and the positive team spirit which has developed within the teams was strongly evident on Friday night.

Congratulations to ALL players for the important part you played in your teams, and well done to the individual award winners, many who are pictured below, who had outstanding seasons with their respective teams. A list of all award winners can be found here.  A special mention also of the premiership winning Under 13s, who were presented with their embroidered jerseys on the night. And although it's not an 'official' title, check out which club is sitting strongly on top of the NTRU junior club ladder. Well done Palmerston Juniors!

Finally, a huge thank you to our wonderful coaches and managers for their tireless commitment to our juniors. Thanks also to the many people who have helped out in some way - big or small, it all counts. And last but not least, thank you to all parents and carers for your support and encouragement of our young players.  Without you, we would not have junior teams!
