Croc Tales
Edition 10 - 12/6/2014

Another fortnight has come and gone and believe it or not, two thirds of the regular season has gone.  This fortnight saw a win and a loss to A grade and two wins to B grade as well as some strong results in the juniors, so on the field things across the club things are generally going well. Off-field things are going pretty well too. Once again, keep up-to-date and informed with this edition of Croc Tales.

Club President

Lavinia Mills

As many of you will know by now, the club lost one of its greatest supporters when Lavinia Mills passed away recently. Lavinia was a much loved member of the club who will be missed by all who knew her.

Many thanks to the Leach family who have provided this moving tribute to Lavinia.

Seniors update

As mentioned, the seniors had a reasonable fortnight. A grade won the crucial game against the Dragons to move 7 points clear in 4th place, then had a loss against top side Casuarina. B grade had the bye and then convincing win against Casuarina, and are sitting comfortably on top of the table.

This weeks games are against University, who are third in A grade and the only team to beat us in B grade this year - a good challenge for both grades.

Paddy Bree has provided this week's game report. Paddy says: "The future is bright for Palmerston RUC and this team, and as an outsider I am proud to of met some of the best people I have met, who truly WANT to learn and improve. GO THE CROCS".

The next session of the Junior Gold program will be on Sunday 15 June at the Palmerston YMCA Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Under 12s: 11am-12pm, Under 14s: 12pm-2pm. The boys will need to bring runners, towel and water bottle. They will have also access to the pool after the session. Our next Bunnings sausage sizzle will be held on Sunday 29 June. There are four shifts which require four people each.  As Dennis Grant (aka the Grumpy Barman, but also the chief Bunnings BBQ  Coordinator) will be away, please text Ben Blyton if you are available to assist (ph. 0417 082 531).
Sports Medicine Australia are running a free first aid course on Saturday July 19 for 14-25 years old involved in Territory Sport. Click here for the flyer and nomination form.

It’s on again, the Darwin Show Clean up! This is our major fundraiser and the club has been doing it now for over 12 years, so it’s also a bit of a Croc’s tradition. The roster will be out soon, but keep the dates of Thursday 24-Sunday 27 July free to help out the club. The seniors are expected to fill the shifts on the Thursday, Friday and Sunday morning, with the juniors doing the Saturday. It’s not hard work and you get into the show for free if you help. See Ben again for more details.

Club sponsor Outback and Beyond Camper Trailer Hire has generously donated one week's hire of a camper trailer including a fridge and generator, valued at $700.  A $100 meat voucher from Quality Meats Palmerston and a $100 gift voucher from Woolworths Palmerston also to be won. Tickets are $2 in a book of 10. Book sellers prize $100. The raffle will be drawn at the Senior Presentation Night on 16 August. Tickets will be handed out at training shortly.
club night no. 2

Club Night # 2

Our second club night was held on Thursday 29 May.  We served up 144 chicken and beef burgers (and would have served more if we hadn’t run out!). These nights are a great way for players, parents and other club members to catch up and be part of the club.

A huge thank you once again to our fantastic committee members and junior managers who made it all happen!  Although not intended as fundraiser, we did end up with a surplus of $217.41 and this will go back into the junior program.

Active After-School Communities

PRUC recently supported the NTRU in the 'Active After-school Communities’ Carnival at Marlows Lagoon.  Approximately 60 kids attended from 3 schools; Gray Primary, Rosebery Primary and Palmerston Christian School. The kids participated in some fun rugby drills with Damien from the NTRU and with Cody, our U5s coach, assisting. Some of our U11s participated and reported that they had great afternoon. It was a great opportunity for our club to have our name involved and be seen at another community event.

HSBC Volunteer of the Year

Unlike previous years, nominations for the Volunteer of the Year award for 2014 can be made online. We have many, many wonderful volunteers in the club, so consider nominating someone today. There are three award categories: Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year (U25) and Lifetime Volunteer of the Year. Nominations close 5 September 2014. Click on the image to see the flyer or click here for further information or to nominate someone.
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.

NTG Community Benefit Fund

The air-conditioners in the clubhouse, which were installed some 20 odd years ago, stopped working earlier this year and due to their age could not be repaired.  We applied for and have been awarded a grant from NT Government's Community Benefit Fund to install a new air conditioning unit and work will commence soon.

Palmerston Crocs Netball

The Palmerston Crocs Netballer's continue to go from strength to strength.  With an A Grade and A Reserve team, two Division One teams, two Division Two teams and a Division Three team, they're a force to be reckoned with. Don't miss the Croc's Netball newsletter, collated by Amy Piccone (click on the Netball News image to open). A Croc's Netball player also features for the first time 'In the Spotlight' below.

Palmerston wins Secretary's Cup - 1982!

Check out this newspaper article from the NT News in December 1982. If the story sounds vaguely familiar, it's because it's about Palmerston B Grade beating Souths to win the Secretary’s Cup, a result which was recently when Palmerston won the 2014 Secretary's Cup against Souths.
