Welcome                                                                        Edition 5 - 20/4/2015

Welcome to another edition of Croc Tales (a couple of days late) and to the 2015 season which kicked off last weekend. B Grade and all junior sides had their first games last weekend and A Grade played for the first time this weekend, after having a bye in the first round.

To all our players both senior and junior, I hope you have an enjoyable and successful season - the best way to do this is to get down to training, train hard, get to know each other and enjoy each other’s company.

All the best for season 2015.

Ben Blyton
Club President

What's on this week...

Friday 24 April - Juniors - Round 3
Refer to the draw for full details

Saturday 25 April - ANZAC Clash
Seniors Update - from Stan Carnes, A Grade Coach
(Note: update provided after round 1)

Welcome back from the Easter break ! The season will now see us doing fitness and skills training each Tuesday and then team and group training on Thursday.

Well done to the Killer B’s and Coach Jarvo who put in a good performance against Swampdogs. Our work around the breakdown saw a much improved performance with the players player award being won by the Flying Frenchman – Pierre.  Good performances were also put in by Dennis Bree, Brad Hogan Sonny and Gav McHugh

Whilst its time to put pre-season behind us and now start on the season proper, I'd like to acknowledge the work put in by the boys and their attitude. A lot of the players drive long distances to train, finish work after long shifts and then play, or go to work straight after training.  Our numbers have been solid at training and we have also done a lot of work around who we want to be as a group this year.

One of the major areas we identified, was to become more united as a group and also more involved with the Old Boys and to recognize our history and who the Crocs are.  What this means is that we train as a whole squad Tuesday and then split for the team runs only on Thursday.

“Winning starts on Monday, not 10 minutes before the game. Its something you have to wake up with – knowing that your preparation was right. Having the confidence that whatever comes up you are ready.”
Jack Gibson.

Anzac Clash

All the best to the following Palmerston Crocs players who will be playing in ANZAC Clash Country of Origin teams this coming weekend: Greg Svanfelds and Michael Killiner (wearing the green and gold) and Jet Yates (wearing black). Anthony Smith was also selected and named as Vice Captain, but will be unable to play due to injury.  Well done also to Robbie Taylor who will be coaching the Australian Country of Origin team.
Rounds 1 and 2 (10 April and 17 April 2015)
The junior season started on Friday 10 April with lots of enthusiastic young players turning up for their first games of the season.  There were some first night butterflies but all players put in a big effort and their games have been great to watch!  Many thanks to the coaches and managers for ensuring that things are running smoothly for all teams, and to all parent for supporting their young players across the grades.
While our numbers are looking good in the younger age groups, we're still light-on in the U15s and U17s. The U15s have played each week with the help of some Swampdogs players (thanks Swampdogs!), however it would be great to have an U15s team in our own right. The U17s are light-on across most clubs and both weeks' games have seen clubs combine to ensure players get a run. Well done to the small number of Palmerston players who have turned up each week, we are hoping the numbers will grow!

The Under 7s and Under 17s have been invited to participate in the ANZAC Clash events being held on ANZAC Day, this coming Saturday 25 April. Refer to the flyer (left) for details, and further information will be provided at training this week.

Who's who in the Juniors

Every Friday night we have over 20 club volunteers who are making it all happen for our juniors on game night. This of course is in addition to the weekly commitment these volunteers have made either as coaches, managers or with the behind-the-scenes 'stuff'.  So that you can put names to faces, here is a list of all our junior volunteers (click left).
FB Album
Junior Photo Albums

For something new in 2015, we'll be including an album of junior photos in our weekly upload of team photos to the club's Facebook page. Check out the albums for round 1 and 2! The albums can also be accessed via our website homepage. (Note: if you do not want your child's photo to appear in these albums, please let your team manager know).
Friday night reminders...

Drivers, please slow down and drive carefully within Rugby Park as there are a lot of children moving between field 1 and field 2 during the night, and children can be very unpredictable!  Parents, please also ensure that children are being supervised around the equipment on field 1 to ensure that no goal posts, corner posts, or field cones are moved, damaged or broken. Thank you in anticipation!
These can be accessed via the NTRU website, our club website and Team App. In addition to the draws you can also look up results, ladders and statistics. Please note that RugbyLink is new for 2015 and volunteers from all clubs have had to learn a new way of doing things.  So if you come across any anomalies with the stats. etc. just let us know (and be patient while we work out what to do next!)

New to rugby and not sure which field is which? This map may help.

Following on from the success of the 2014 season between a couple of clubs, there will once again be a women's competition this year. For any enquiries about a new Palmerston side, please refer to Drew Weaver (ph/text 0438 712 375).
Bunnings BBQ # 2
On Sunday 12 April we had our second successful Bunnings BBQ for the year. Thanks to all who helped out over the four shifts, pictured from left to right: Rob Sloan, Robbie Taylor, Ned Kelly, Dennis Grant, Jacob Blyton, Mitchell Brady, Ben Blyton, Ashley Eadie (with satisfied customer and former club member Paul Dale), Tyrone Gersch-Mizen, Deakin Bradley, Brock Evan, Allan Babbs, Drew Weaver, Fiona Weaver, Cody Akers, Jamie Akers and Eddie Weaver.

We have another three barbeques this year, so keep the following dates on the radar: 14 June, 9 August and 11 October.  These are one of our major fund raising activities and they're a great way for all club members - seniors, juniors, supporters -  to pitch in and help out.
Junior Club Night # 1

Our first club night for the season will be held next Thursday 30 April. These are a great way to meet new people while enjoying a (always delicious) meal. The whole family is welcome and any funds raised go back into the junior program.  A flyer will be handed out at training this week.

Reminder about shorts

A reminder that our 2015 shorts sponsor is the Bendigo Bank - Coolalinga and Districts Branch. Bendigo Bank are a significant sponsor who make a valued financial contribution to our club. Make sure you wear your Bendigo Bank shorts at all games!
Croc Shop Clearance

For sale - some old A Grade jerseys (pictured), some even older assorted jerseys, old style socks and 2013 and 2014 training singlets in a limited variety of sizes. Drop into the clubhouse to see what's available - first in best dressed with the A Grade jerseys!
40 years of rugby in the Territory

2016 will be the 40th anniversary of  rugby in the Territory and our club, as a founding club of the 1976/1977 season, will also be celebrating 40 years.   Which means it's time for a another reunion!  The long weekend in June is looking good, but this will be confirmed shortly.

An initiative for 2016 is an honour board in the clubhouse for all Palmerston player who have played for the Territory. Again, more on this in upcoming editions of Croc Tales - but something to keep on the radar for now.
The Palmerston Crocs would not survive without the valued support of our generous sponsors. Please support these sponsors where possible - for more information about each business, just click on their logo below.
