Welcome                                                                            Edition 13 - 6/8/15

Well the last fortnight has had some highlights and definitely some low lights. A Grade lost on Saturday and with that unfortunately their season is over and they will not be playing finals this year. The result is very disappointing but we have paid the price of being inconsistent and not taking our opportunities throughout the season.

B Grade however finished third and play Casuarina in the sudden death final. My feeling with B Grade is if we get through this week we can give it a big shake and defend last year’s premiership. Casuarina seems to give us more trouble than the other two sides so come on B’s, let’s do it and go all the way again.

The juniors continue on Friday night with their last round before the finals and all sides will make the finals this year. Well done juniors and let’s keep going and finish the year off in style.

Club President

Keeping in the loop...

By Stan Carnes, A Grade Coach

Season 2015 came to an end last Saturday night against a fired-up Dragons outfit.  Although we could make a lot of excuses around why we lost, ultimately Dragons were more enthusiastic on  the night and took advantage of the opportunities we gave them so full credit must go to them and we wish them success in the finals.

I'd like to acknowledge a number of players who carried injuries into the game including Cameron Moore, Gareth Felton, Matt Thorogood, and Drew Weaver who kept going until the final whistle.  I'd also like to thank Marc Gardner who drives 6 hours each week to play for us and this week drove up after a funeral. This is the sort of spirit we have weekly, and there is potential to improve next year if we stick together as a group and build.

In the next week I will release a survey to all players asking for feedback around improvements for Season 2016. I would ask that everyone takes the 5 minutes or so to fill this in. The Committee work hard to help us, and we need to find out what the issues are.

Finally, good luck to everyone in B Grade this weekend. The boys have worked hard all year and this is a good result for them. It would be great to see as many people at the ground as possible this Sunday.
Senior Presentation Night

Come and celebrate the 2015 season!

Don't miss this year's senior presentation night to be held on Saturday 29 August from 6.30pm at the clubhouse.

The meal will be fully catered for by Grinners Catering and there will a happy hour from 6.30 till 7.30. Pre-pay and it's $50pp or pay $60.00 on the night.

The flyer is available here.
This week sees the Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s play their round 15 games before moving into what promises to be a very exciting final series. The Under 5s, Under 7s and Under 9s continue through to round 17. A number of players in these teams are already keen to move up an age group next season and it really is fantastic to see these emerging players in action.  If you haven't made it down a junior game yet, now would be a great time to do so!  What better way to spend a Friday evening...?

The NTRU Eric Johnston Presentation Night will be held on Sunday 16 August 2015. If you have are interested in attending, please see a committee member to secure your spot. For full details, check out the flyer.

The Palmerston Crocs are planning to attend the 2015 Cambodia Rugby Tens in November this year. This will be a great opportunity for our current players to experience the joys of touring rugby union, as well as seeing how the game is played in other parts of the world.  Full details of the tour can be found in the Cambodia Information Pack or by speaking with tour organiser and manager Drew Weaver.

The club is once again raffling off a week’s camper trailer hire, kindly donated by sponsor Outback and Beyond Camper Trailer Hire. Books of 10 are available in the club house and tickets are only $2 each. It  would be great if all club members could consider selling at least one book of raffle tickets.

Junior team photos will be taken this Friday night. As always, don't forget to wear your correct club socks, Bendigo Bank shorts and big smiles! Cameras welcome.

A reminder that the NT Under 12 try-outs start this Monday 10 August. All eligible Under 12s (players born in 2003 or 2004) are encouraged to attend. Further information is available in here.

We have our fourth Bunnings BBQ for the year on this Sunday 9 August. The shifts have been filled (thanks everyone who will be helping out!), but if you're in the area make sure you stop by and say hello.

Royal Darwin Show Clean Up

A huge thank you to the approximately 75 fantastic volunteers who helped out across the four days of the Darwin Show Clean Up.  This is our major fundraiser for the year and given that we've been doing it since 2002, it's also become a club tradition. In fact in the 13 years we've been involved, we've probably raised well over $80 000 for the club. It's a great event that the whole club can pitch in and help with - from past players and supporters, seniors player, juniors with their families and also friends. So thank you again to every one who helped out! It's much appreciated!

Walking Wounded Match

An article about the club's recent Walking Wounded Charity Match has featured on the Walking Wounded website.  You can read the article here.

Many thanks to everyone who voted for Ben Blyton in the recent HSBC Volunteer of the Year Fans Choice Award.  The eventual winner was from Sydney Irish RFC in South Coogee in Sydney, with Ben sitting an awesome third in the battle of the states.

Good luck!

Congratulations also go to Robbie Taylor and former Croc Colin Snowden (East Arnhem Rugby Union) who have been nominated for the Asteron Life Community Coach of the Year Award. Well done, and all the best Robbie and Snogger!

Jackson Eagleton - B Grade

Jackson Eagleton
started the season ready for another big year in Under 17s. However the U17s folded so Jackson made the move to the senior ranks instead. He has been a great trainer all year which has lead to consistent performances, and he is now a very valuable member of the B Grade side.

Along with Jackson, several other former junior players made the move to the senior ranks this year, including Thomas Roe, Tommy O'Connor, Henry Degoumis and Liam Bilston to name a few. Well done boys.
