Croc Tales
Edition 19 - 6/11/2014

It always amazes me how much goes on within our club each fortnight, even if it is the off-season when people think we are all having a rest.

Last week we were were announced as the NT Good Sports Club of the Year, in recognition of our work in providing a safe and healthy family atmosphere for all of our players. Our AGM was also held during the fortnight and to the outgoing committee I would like to thank you for your hard work over the last 12 months, and to the new committee welcome and I hope you are looking forward to season 2015 and all that it will bring.

Last weekend three of our senior players were overseas playing in the Singapore 7s and this morning eight of our juniors have flown to Malaysia to represent the Territory as part of the NT Under 14 side. Read more about these tours in the news below. Closer to home many of our juniors are playing in our Junior 7s Tournament, while on the Saturday our seniors are playing in the Heineken Super 7s Darwin Tournament.

So yes, a fair bit is happening despite it being the off-season!

Club President

Heading SCC International Rugby Sevens

Congratulations to senior players Anthony Smith, Jay Jack and Greg Svanfelds who played with the East Arnhem Rugby Union Club in the Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens Tournament held in Singapore over the weekend.

East Arnhem defeated Singapore Barbarians 19-7 on Friday Night and drew 14-14 with the Singapore Select in the first game on Saturday Morning. With an eventual win, draw and two losses in the pool stage, East Arnhem finished 4th in a five team Pool and with a spot in the Cup Round of 16.   A loss against Penguins on Sunday Morning sent them to a Plate quarter final and a 29-0 loss to the Galloping Greens from Randwick. The weekend proved was an incredible opportunity for Anthony, Jay Jack and Greg, and it is hoped that it may become a regular fixture on the Palmerston calendar.

NT Under 14 Malaysian Tour

NT U14 training
The NT Under 14s departed for Malaysia this morning for their week-long representative tour.  They will play three games in Malaysia: on Saturday vs. KL Saracens Rugby Club  at Universiti Malaysia, on Sunday vs. SMK George V at Jalan Zaaba and on Tuesday vs. Johor Rugby Academy at Dataran Bandaraya. We wish the team all the best.

Pictured is the team training last Sunday and the Palmerston boys in the early hours of this morning (from L-R: Robbie Taylor (Assistant Coach), Ruben Mouten, Wayne Smith (Coach), Eddie Weaver, Wayne Bilston, Ryan Otto, Aiden Holt, Dylan Wells, Jack Deane and Jacob Blyton.

Palmerston Crocs Junior 7s Tournament

Under 7
Under 9
Under 9
Under 11

We have now played three rounds of our Junior 7s Tournament with two rounds remaining. The tournament is proving to be a enjoyable event with teams from Under 7s through to Under 15s, including two Under 13+ Girls teams participating. It's been great having teams from Swampdogs, Casuarina, University and Souths involved, as well at the awesome Junior Gold team in the U15s.
Across Australia there are a number of 7s tournaments held throughout the year and just like many senior players who refine their running and passing skills playing 7s in the off-season, our junior players are doing exactly the same. While some players are fairly new to rugby union, others have a number of seasons behind them. However the aim for all players is the same: carry and catch the ball, pass, run into space, support their team mates and of course score tries!
The tournament games continue in a round robin format on Friday evenings up to Friday 14 November. Thanks once again to the many people who are making it all happen: the referees, coaches, managers, the bbq crew, the sports trainers, everyone who helps with the set up and pack up, in the clubhouse, etc... thanks very much!

Trivia Night and Auction

Update from Tamara Holt, Raine & Horne (and U14 parent)

On Friday the 31st October we held a Halloween Trivia Night and Auction to raise some funds to help our Under 14 reps with the cost of going to Malaysia and representing the NT.  It was a fun and successful night.  The winners on the night were Melva's Conveyancing taking out first place (and then donating the winnings back - thanks Roxy), the Raine & Horne table came second and REINT won the wooden spoon.
We would just like to say a massive thanks to all that participated and sponsored the Palmerston Crocs and Raine & Horne Trivia Night. All eight boys (and their parents) were very grateful for the fundraising efforts which assisted them to get to Malaysia.
Big thanks to: Ben and Dennis for the venue, working the bar and helping throughout the organization of this event, Coates Hire, Image Cloud, Trevor Tschirpig Conveyancers, Top End Pest Control, The Cav and the team at Raine & Horne for sponsoring tables and prizes for the night, the Hot Dog Lady for providing the food and then donating all profits back, and Stan Carnes for the donation of the Melbourne Rebels jersey for the auction.
Most of all thank you to Jack, Jacob and Aidan for volunteering their Friday night to be waiters, sell raffle tickets and generally help with anything we asked on the night.

Good luck to all the boys!

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday 2 November. Many thanks to all who attended and a special mention to Member for Drysdale, Lia Finocchiaro who also made the time to attend.

We're just confirming a couple of absentee nominations that were made and we will introduce the 2015 Committee in the next edition of Croc Tales.

A great photo of three of wonderful our Under 7s in action on Friday night at Moulden Oval, with Sampson Boynton demonstrating some of the good attacking play that he's been practicing at training all season. Keep an eye out for upcoming editions of the Palmerston Sun and more articles and photos about our awesome juniors. (Click on the image to enlarge).

Under 14 Darwin Rep Team

On the subject of U14 representative sides, the NTRU recently posted on their Facebook page this team list of the U14 Darwin side that played Katherine in 2003.Of the 1136 players that have had the honour of playing for the All Blacks, only one can claim the honour of having played in an U14 Darwin v Katherine side alongside his Palmerston Crocs team mates. (Click on the image to enlarge).

To all our existing 2014 sponsors, thank you for your support during 2014. As our new committee settles in we'll be contacting you about the 2015 season. If there are other prospective sponsors out there, now is a fantastic time to contact the club as we are about to negotiate 2015 sponsorship packages.
