NT Under 14 Malaysian Tour (by Robbie Taylor, Assistant Coach)

NT U14s
NT U14s
The NT Under 14s recently travelled to Malaysia for a 7 day tour.  The trip was a success for the most part.
Day 1, Thursday
As we got into KL fairly early, we gave the boys a couple of hours to relax and settle into their hostel. The hostel was located in the centre of Chinatown.  We then headed out to Royal Selangor Club for our final training run before Saturday's first game. As would become common practice, it started to rain in the afternoon and we had to cut short the session due to the lightning storm that had joined us.  We then took the boys up to Times Square (a massive shopping centre) to let them run loose and have a bit of fun.  That night we had Nando's for dinner. And the boys were all in bed early for Friday's activity. To read the full tour report, click here.

Palmerston Crocs Junior 7s Tournament

Last Friday night was the fifth and final week of our club-run Junior 7s Tournament held out at Palmerston.  Over the 5 weeks we had over 200 kids play in over 85 games of 7s, a total of over 20 hours of rugby.

So a massive thankyou to all the players and their families along with the clubs who supported the tournament!  We hope to see you back next year.

As always, to make these events happen we rely on our many volunteers and to all of them, thank you very much.

Some special mentions though should be made of the following people, who without their work the event would not be what it was... READ MORE

Dates for the 2015 season are currently being confirmed and will be posted on the club website, on the club Facebook page (make sure you ‘like’ the club on Facebook) and in Croc Tales once exact dates are known.  As a general guide, the sign-on day will be towards the end of February, training will start early March and the season will start early April.

If you are aged 16 years and over and would like to try out the Youth Boys Nationals to be held in March 2015, then come along to Rugby Park on Wednesday 26 November to try out. More details are available on the flyer here.

The year that was... season highlights!

It's been a huge year for the Palmerston Crocs.

Hottest 7s

Our best result in years at the Hottest 7s, making the semi-finals of the Division 2 competition. Greg Svanfelds is later named PRUC 7s player of the year. We welcome netball to the club with the development of the Palmerston Croc Netball Club.

Rhys Hitchcock named A grade coach and training commences for the seniors. Seniors hold a pre-season camp with guest coach Todd Louden (now 2015 assistant coach with Melbourne Rebels).

Pre-season competition begins and wins over Swampdogs, Casuarina and University sees PRUC win the Pre-Season Cup. Juniors commence training.
Under 7s

Both the senior and junior seasons commence. Seniors have home games at Moulden. Juniors enter sides in every age group from Under 5s through to Under 17s, including two Under 7s sides.
Under 13s

Season continues. Club holds a Ladies Day at our home game. B Grade wins the mid-season Secretary's Cup. Junior games continue at Rugby Park every Friday night.
club night

We continue our club nights, holding three throughout the season.  144 burgers are served at our biggest club night of the year. Juniors take a short break for the school holidays.

Bayley Hakes, Liam Bilston, Thomas Roe, Greg Svanfelds, Felix Byrne, Ayrton Deo and Trent Keppel make the NT Schoolboys side to travel to NSW.  Jonathon Briskin, Karl Croker, Luke Doherty-Morgan, Johannes DePlessis, Tom O’Connor and Isaako Teuati make the NT Under 16s to travel to the Gold Coast. Robbie Taylor is also selected as Team Manager. Greg Svanfelds selected to play for the Mozzies against the ASRU side. Also this month, over 100 club members participate in our major fundraiser, the Darwin Show Clean Up.

Semi finals commence with Palmerston making the semis in A Grade and B Grade, Under 17s and Under 13s all making the finals. B Grade and Under 17s win their PREMIERSHIPS and the Under 13s are unlucky to lose their grand final after finishing minor premiers.  Presentation nights for both seniors and juniors are held. Jay Jack awarded A Grade Best & Fairest

A month off the field. Committee working behind the scenes as always.  Organisation for Junior 7s underway.  And we hold our 4th out of 5 Bunnings BBQS - Bunnings BBQS are one of the clubs' major fundraisers.
Junior 7s

Our Junior 7’s Tournament kicks off with over double the number of team entries from last year. Senior players participate in the Heinekken Corporate 7s Tournament. The club is named NT Good Sports Club of the year. Anthony Smith, Greg Svenfelds and Jay Jack selected to participate in the Singapore 7s with East Arnhem.
NT U14s

The AGM is held. The NT Under 14s travel to Malaysia.  Palmerston juniors Ruben Mouten, Wayne Bilston, Eddie Weaver, Ryan Ottto, Aiden Holt, Jacob Blyton, Jack Deane and Dylan Wells all made the side, Wayne Smith coach and Robbie Taylor Assistant coach also tour. Junior 7’s Tournament concludes.

Another month, only the second for the year, when it's all quiet on the field!  Enjoy the break!

A big congratulations to Rhys, Lori and big sister Charlotte on the safe arrival of Henry James Hitchcock on Friday 14 November.  Rhys is currently back in Newcastle enjoying some R & R with his growing family, and no doubt enjoying some sleepless nights too.
Car Rally

Movember Car Rally

A message from Tamara Holt (who was recently involved with the organisation of the Halloween Quiz Night for the NT U14s): "As you may know this month has sprouted many unflattering top lip hairs across the country... Movember is upon us again, so to help raise some cash... we would love you to join us in the Amazing Race Car Rally on Sunday 30th November". Click on the image for an enlargement.
In the spotlight

Palmerston Sun

Another great photo of our wonderful juniors in this week's Palmerston Sun, this time of Charli Brady taking the ball in an Under 9 game against Swampdogs. (Click on the image to enlarge or click here for the accompanying article).

Fashions off the field

Times have certainly changed when it comes to the 'official' gear worn on tour. On the left is an NT schoolboy side from the mid-1980s - with ironed trousers and shirts, polished shoes and even a tie.  On the right is our most recent NT reps, the U14s, looking very smart in their 100% polyster polos (no ironing required!).

Recognise any faces in the photo on left? From left to right: Simon Rieter, Al Watson, Ben Blyton, Damien Hale and David Bean.

To all our existing 2014 sponsors, thank you for your support during 2014. As our new committee settles in we'll be contacting you about the 2015 season.

If there are other potential sponsors out there who would like to support a successful, motivated, grass-roots sporting club, now would be the perfect time to contact the club as we are currently negotiating 2015 sponsorship packages.

In appreciation of all our valuable sponsors:

Palmerston Rugby Union Club is a grassroots rugby club, proudly run 100% by dedicated volunteers.

We welcome your contributions and feedback to Croc Tales.
