Croc Tales
Edition 16 - 4/9/2014

Welcome

Well, what a season!!  To all our club members, thanks for your contribution to the season and I hope you got out of the year what you hoped for. To our sponsors and supporters both near and far - you are an invaluable part of our club.  And to our many volunteers who committed their time and energy in some way throughout the season - the club wouldn't be where we are without you.  Thanks to everyone's efforts we are again ending the season in a better place than when we started and the club is in a very strong position for 2015.

With the 15s playing season having come to an end its time for some to have a rest before the next season starts. But before you switch off completely, remember we have a couple of key activities still to come, including the Junior 7s Tournament in October/November and the AGM in November, so mark both onto your calendars for your rugby fix in the off-season.

On a separate note, all the best to the Palmerston Crocs Netball A Grade side, who will be playing it their semi-finals this week.  The netballers have had a very successful season - read more about it in the Netball News below.

In conclusion, I would like to pass on the words of A Grade coach Rhys Hitchcock who spoke at the senior presentation night about the possibilities for next year, saying that "it's time to ride the wave" as we continue to strive to achieve across all areas of the club in season 2015. As someone then called out, "it's time to ride the wave of the Palmy Tsunami!”

Go the Crocs!

Ben Blyton
Club President

Note: Croc Tales will now take a short break until October / November, when we'll cover the Junior 7s Tournament, AGM and other off-season events.

Junior Presentation Night

The Junior Presentation Night was held at the clubhouse on Friday 22 August. It was very rewarding for all involved to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment that our young players had in celebrating the end of their season. A massive thank you to all the parents for supporting and encouraging their children week in and week out over the entire season. It's a big commitment and our junior teams rely 100% on that commitment - we wouldn't have a junior program without you! (Click on the image for individual awards)

Apologies Under 15s, we missed a photo of all of you up the front, so here's one of your coach Stanley Terupo and manager Clare MacDonald. It was a challenging year for the U15s but Stanley and Clare did a superb job in providing stability and continuity for the team.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in some way with the preparation, organisation and running of the junior presentation night (you know who you are!). It is appreciated!

Seniors, we haven't forgotten your presentation night photos! We just didn't have them in time for this edition of Croc Tales.

Netball News

The Palmerston Crocs Netball Club is having a very successful season and they even featured on the back page of the NT News on Thursday 28 August.

A Grade played a strong and experienced Pints line up last Thursday and took away the win to go on to the semi finals.  A Grade will go up against Hoggies this week and a win will put them into the Grand Final.

Kerr-Barlow's awesome pass

Doing the rounds recently was this footage of an absolutely awesome pass by Tawera (Narada) Kerr-Barlow playing for Waikato in the ITM Cup against Taranaki. Many of our juniors were fortunate to meet Tawera recently when he attended a training session during a short holiday break with his family back in Darwin. Click on the image to access the footage.

Junior 7s Tournament

It's on again - our own Junior 7s Tournament!  Training will commence on the Tuesday after the school holidays (7/10) with games commencing the following Friday 17/10 and running through to Friday 14/11 (5 weeks).  We're aiming for U7s through to U15s. Like last year, other clubs will be invited and we will try and ensure that each age group has two games every Friday. It's great for fitness and skill development and importantly, it's lots of fun! Further details are available on the club's website.

We're in Hansard

The club was mentioned in Parliament recently by local Member for Drysdale Lia Finocchiaro, in reference to our recent accreditation at Level 3 in the Good Sports program. An extract of her speech is available here. We thank Ms Finocchiaro for her ongoing and active support of the Palmerston Crocs.
