Croc Tales

Welcome                                                                        Edition 3 - 19/3/2015

Welcome all to another Croc Tales and it really feels as though the season has started now.  The first senior trial game is done and dusted and all in all I don’t think it could have gone much better.

A small crowd came out to Moulden Oval to see our boys win 50 to 7 over a very under-strength Dragons unit, but you can only play the opposition that turns up so well done boys, with the pleasing signs being everyone got a run and spirits are high. Off the field it was good to see so many players pitching in with the set up and pack up - great club spirit that can be built on throughout the year. We play University this week, details below.

With the senior trials underway and the season proper for both juniors and seniors only three weeks away, now is the time to get down to training if you have not already done so. Let's make this season as good as it can be!

Senior update - from Stan Carnes, A Grade Coach

Welcome back to the players who are now returning for Season 2015 and in particular the U17 squad and their 2015 coaches Wayne Smith and Dale Reid, who are now also doing fitness training with the Senior Squad. Its good to now have everyone back after their various other sporting commitments ready and primed to do battle for the Crocs in 2015.

The trials kicked off against Darwin Dragons on 14 March for the Senior Squad after some good numbers at training.   The boys won 50-7 in difficult conditions over 4 x 20 min quarters. Good performances were put in by Pebbles, TobyGreg and Rhys Junior.   The trial also saw the debut of our new off field team with Cecily Boulton and Manager Riva Zio, and on behalf of all the players I’d like to acknowledge the work they put in. B Grade Coach - Greg Jarvis

The club is very pleased to say that after prolonged contract negotiations, Greg 'Jarvo' Jarvis has signed on for another year. Jarvo (pictured left with Dennis Bree) was our B Grade coach last year and took the side all the way through to a premiership win, picking up the Secretary's Cup along the way. Welcome back Jarvo! Now lets see about going back to back for the Killer Bs...
Senior subs are now due

The full total payable is $243, which includes insurance, ARU levy and club fees.
We talk about it every year, but this year an important change has happened regarding the way subs are distributed. The ARU has decided that individuals, not the clubs, must pay insurance.  There are two options: either an up front payment of $93.00 or a casual fee of $25.00 per game. If you do not pay either amount prior to playing, then you will not be insured.  This is an ARU directive, not the clubs!  See Ben for more information or to enter into a payment plan.
Junior Gold Program discontinued

It was with regret that the the NTRU announced last week that the Junior Gold Program (pictured here at training) would not be continuing in the NT due to lack of funding. The boys and their coaches have been training very hard over the last year and they are to be commended on their commitment to the program. Although the Junior Gold program is discontinued, NT representative players can still look forward to some great tours this year:
Junior Gold
1. Under 12s (Newcastle)

2. Under 14s (Gold Coast)

3. Under 16s (Gold Coast)

4. NT Schoolboys (Schoolboys Nationals, 2 week tour)

ARU Coach and Referee Development

This weekend sees a number of our junior volunteers attending coaches courses being run by the ARU:

Foundation Course on Sunday 22 March - Tony Rudd (U15 coach), Jamie Akers (U13 coach)
Coaching Kids Rugby on Tuesday 24 March - Shaun Gill (U9 coach), Kevin Humphreys (U7 coach), Larissa Deo (U5 coach)

Refereeing Kids Rugby on Tuesday 25 March - Gary Cowley (a parent - thanks Gary!), Oscar Ruru and Jacob Blyton (Under 15s players)

If there are any other parents or players interested in attending the junior refereeing course, please let us know asap. The more referees we have, the better! (Click on the flyer for further details).

There will be no training for the Under 7s and Under 9s next Tuesday 24 March, to allow coaches of these teams to attend the Coaches Kids Rugby course being held on the same evening (as per above).  We thank parents for their understanding about this cancellationn. This is a once-per-year opportunity for our coaches. it's just unfortunate that it fell on a training night!

If you didn't receive the note that was handed out on Tuesday, it is also available

While some teams have very solid numbers, other teams have room for more players. If you know of anyone who may be interested in playing for the mighty Palmerston Crocs, be sure to let them know that we're a great club and we would love to see them!

Are you good with a camera, taking photos, recording footage, editing, formatting and/or creating clips...?  If you can tick one or more  of these boxes, you may be just who the seniors need at their Saturday games.  See Stan Carnes before or after training or drop into the clubhouse at anytime to express your interest.

New Croc Shop Gear

New for 2015 – Palmerston Crocs Gym Shorts. See what the best dressed crocodiles will be wearing this year.  Whether it’s to the gym or just for casual wear, these gym shorts will make you stand out (while promoting the club at the same time!). Just $35, they will be available from the Croc Shop from next week.
Palmerston Crocs Team App

Don't forget to sign up for the Crocs Team App if you have a smartphone and you haven't already done so. There are four steps to sign up, but it's not difficult - just check the flyer on the left for instructions on what to do. Once you have app you can access a whole range of features. For example, the Pre-Season Cup draw and results can currently be found via the Draw/Results button. And of course, the Croc logo looks pretty good on your screen!
Pre Season Game
In the spotlight this week... all senior players who trained hard and played well in the first game of the season! A special mention of Ayrton Deo and Henry Degoumis who moved up from Under 17s at the end of the last season. Congratulations Ayrton and Henry, on your senior debuts!
Robbie - U10s
Robbie - Junior Gold
The young Palmerston Croc circled in the 1992 Under 10s team is none other than Robbie Taylor.  Robbie has made a significant contribution to the club in the twenty plus since the days of the Under 10s and he’s also made his mark with the NTRU in various roles.  He’s pictured more recently here on the right with Wayne Smith, at the Junior Gold training held at our home ground a couple of weeks ago.
The Palmerston Crocs would not survive without the valued support of our generous sponsors. Please support these sponsors where possible - for more information about each business, just click on their logo below.
