Croc Tales
Edition 14 - 21/8/2014

I usually start by saying what a busy fortnight it's been. Well, nothing much happened this fortnight, except... we played in 3 grand finals, winning 2, our younger sides played their final games and we also had our senior presentation night.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to both B Grade and the Under 17s who won their grand finals.  Both games were very close and true finals games where either side could have won. But we did, so well done to both these sides from the whole club.

The Under 13s were the best side in their age group all year but unfortunately they got done on the day.  The boys never gave up though, and the guts and determination they showed is an example to all us all. Well done Under 13s.

The senior presentation night was held last Saturday and with over 100 in attendance it was a good night. The numbers showed again that the club is rebuilding and we have a strong base for next year.

Tomorrow night sees the last significant event of the regular season with the junior presentation. This is held at the club house and is a great family night.  We welcome all club members to come along and celebrate the juniors' successful season

B Grade
B Grade Grand Final: Palmerston 24 Casuarina 23

B Grade Grand Final

Well what a game, what a great final and what’s more, what a fitting result for our B Grade.

The game did not start well for our mighty B Grade Crocs. In fact we soon found ourselves 12 nil down and for some it looked like it might be a long afternoon. However to our guys credit, they hung in there and worked hard and were rewarded with a  a couple of tries to Errol Wilson and we were back in it trailing 12-15 at half time.

The second half started in the same way as the first, with Casuarina being the first to score.  But like the first half, we settled and the boys started to dominate. Second half tries to Ryan Cotton and Shane Burley saw us out to a 6 point lead with 20 minutes to play. That was how it stayed for 17 minutes until Casuarina scored a controversial try in the Palmy corner and our crowd had to endure a nervous wait for the conversion. Fortunately for us it missed and we were still up by a point with just over 3 minutes to go. The 3 minutes seem to take 20 but the boys were outstanding and eventually time was called and we had won to the delight of our big crowd.

The win is a just reward to the club as it was a club effort to get there. Well done everyone!
Senior Presentation Night

Senior Presentation Night

As mentioned, the Senior Presentation Night was held last Saturday at Cazalys. A big congratulations to all our award winners!  We'll include photos from the night in the next edition of Croc Tales.

Special guests on the night were the Under 17s - many of whom will be moving up into the senior ranks next year. Like B Grade, the Under 17s were also celebrating their 2014 grand final win.

Junior Season Reviews

The club had a good season in the juniors this year and we were again the only club to field a side in every age group, from Under 5s through to Under 17s. Across the junior sides we had over 20 coaches, managers and other club volunteers (junior registrar etc.) who made the weekly commitment to support and encourage our young players for the duration of the season. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers within the junior program - thank you to all!

The coaches and/or managers of all junior sides have provided reviews of the season and these can be accessed via the links below. They're great write-ups; make sure you read what your coach or manager has to say about the season!

Note: reviews for the U11s, U7 Blue and U5s appeared in the last edition of Croc Tales, however if you missed these, the links have been provided again below.

Junior 7s

Junior 7s Tournament

We will once again be running a Junior 7s Tournament in term 4. The 7s is an excellent opportunity for off-season skill-development and fitness training, plus the kids get to see their rugby team mates again! It's also an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in coaching or refereeing to develop and improve their skills in a friendly and supportive environment. A training and sign-on day (for new players) will be held on Tuesday 7/10 with games to commence the following Friday 17/10, running through to Friday 14/11.

Netball News

This week is the last game of the season for the Darwin Netball Competition, with finals starting next week. Great work A Grade and Division 1, who have made it into the top four of their division!

There are also a couple of key functions coming that the netball club is involved with.

NT News

Craig Leach

Craig Leach (Squirter) was in the spotlight recently when he was named at number 20 in the NT News list of the Territory's top 50 sports stars.

Craig started playing for the club back in the '80s as a teenager and he most recently played in the premiership winning B Grade grand final this season.

Blue Sky Graphics
Chris Bree of Blue Sky Graphics was first involved with the club way back in the '70s. Now residing in Brisbane, Chris is still providing her creative expertise for the club. Recent designs/creations include the 35th anniversary banners (which we use regularly throughout the season), our new club website (a massive undertaking which Chris also provided very generous sponsorship towards) and our Junior 7s logo (shown in the club news above). Thanks Chris!
