Future Planning 101: What is it & Why is it Important?

     T.A.R.P. (Training, Advocacy, Referral, & Peer Support) Center for Independent Living, a rural independent living center, located in Paris, Henry County, Northwest Tennessee, is a non-profit, 501 c-3, non-residential, consumer-centered agency. We are designed and operated within our local community by individuals with disabilities and provide an array of independent living programs for people with disabilities.
TARP services consist of:
  • Training: of independent life skills
  • Advocacy: both individual and systemic for the consumer; and teaching self-advocacy.
  • Referral: offer information and referrals to available resources for our consumers pending eligibility for the possible assistance.
  • Peer support: we provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social, or practical help to our consumers through conversations with others who have had similar issues. READ MORE>>

ABLE TN Makes Saving Easy and Cost-Efficient

ABLE TN will celebrate its second anniversary next month and with it, two full years of helping individuals with disabilities plan for the future! Administered by the Tennessee Department of Treasury, ABLE TN is a savings program designed to help individuals with disabilities put aside money to save for qualified expenses.
ABLE TN utilizes the principals of sound financial management that Tennesseans expect to help ensure all our communities have the opportunity to plan and save for the future,” said State Treasurer David H. Lillard, Jr. In the two years of the program, ABLE TN has helped 1,815 individuals with disabilities save more than $10.4 million.  To see if you qualify, READ MORE >>
Employment and Community First CHOICES (ECF CHOICES)

    In July 2016, TennCare launched Employment and Community First CHOICES, a new long-term services and supports program for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.  Employment and Community First CHOICES is the first program in the country to be designed and implemented as an integrated, home and community based services program that focuses on promoting and supporting integrated, competitive employment and community living as the first and preferred options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  With the introduction of Employment and Community First CHOICES, for the first time Tennesseans with only a developmental disability can qualify for long-term services and supports.
