We are excited to announce that our first TOD project is under construction! A groundbreaking celebration was held on August 22 for the Edgewood/Candler Park Station TOD. Progress continues to be made at Avondale StationChamblee StationBrookhaven/Oglethorpe  University Station and Arts Center StationAdditionally, a request for proposals will be released by year-end for TOD at Lindbergh Center Station along the Piedmont Avenue corridor. 

MARTA has engaged Red Rock Global to assist in the marketing and sale of surplus properties. Four properties have been identified thus far and additional properties will be added to the list in the future. To view the available properties, please visit Red Rock Global's website

We celebrated the launch of the second season of the Fresh MARTA Market at Five Points Station on September 23 with our partners at the Community Farmers Markets and Atlanta Community Food Bank as well as representatives from the USDA. Additionally, a request for bids was released in early October for the introduction of ATMs in our stations.

The MARTA referendum is quickly approaching. On November 8 voters in the City of Atlanta will have an opportunity to vote to levy a half-cent sale tax to fund MARTA bus and rail expansion projects as well as other service enhancements. Edgewood/Candler Park Station TOD

Development Partner: Invest Atlanta and Columbia Ventures/Columbia Residential
Proposed Development: A mixed-use development centered around greenspace that provides for increased connectivity to the surrounding community. Phase I is slated to include approximately 224 apartments, including 10% affordable units, and 26,000 square feet of commercial and performing arts space.
Project Status: Construction is underway on Phase I with initial occupancy anticipated in late 2017. Visit our project page to view renderings and plans, see updates from the development team, review the timeline, and ask questions on the site’s public forum. 

Avondale Station TOD

Development Partner: Development Authority of the City of Decatur and Columbia Ventures
Proposed Development: The project is slated to include approximately 377 apartments, 92 affordable senior independent living units, 34 condominiums, 41,500 square feet of commercial space and 25,000 square feet of institutional space. The site plan features a central plaza which will serve as an amenity for residents, transit riders and the surrounding community.
Project Status: The project closing is anticipated in October and construction will commence by year-end. Visit our project page to view renderings and plans, see updates from the development team, review the timeline, and ask questions on the site’s public forum. 

Brookhaven/Oglethorpe University Station TOD

Development Partner: Brookhaven City Center Partners, a joint venture of Transwestern Development Company and Integral
Proposed Development: The multi-phase project is slated to include approximately 100 affordable senior independent living units, 340 apartments, 107 ownership units, 55,768 square feet of retail space, 200,000 square feet of office space, 125 hotel rooms and civic space.
Project Status: Board approval of the Term Sheet is pending. The development program has been revised to incorporate feedback received from residents during a series of community meetings. The Brookhaven Planning Commission approved the rezoning request on October 5. A City Council vote on the rezoning has been deferred until the January 24 meeting. GDOT has committed to participate in funding the transportation improvements on Peachtree Road with the goal of improving traffic congestion. Visit our project page to view renderings and plans, see updates from the development team, review the timeline, and ask questions on the site’s public forum.

Chamblee Station TOD

Development Partner: Trackside Partners, a joint venture of Pattillo Industrial Real Estate and Parkside Partners Inc.
Proposed Development: Phase I of the project will include 50,000 square feet of class A office space and street-level retail. Pattillo Industrial Real Estate will anchor Phase I of the project with their new corporate headquarters. Phase II will provide an additional 30,000 square feet of commercial space. The project is located on 2.16 acres across the street from the Chamblee Station.
Project Status: Negotiations on the Definitive Agreements are final and construction is slated to commence in early 2017. Visit our project page to view renderings and plans, see updates from the development team, review the timeline, and ask questions on the site’s public forum. 

Arts Center Station TOD 

On August 5 the Board of Directors authorized staff to enter into exclusive negotiations with The Integral Group and Cousins Properties for TOD at the Arts Center Station. Preliminary plans for the mixed-use project include office, residential and retail as well as enhancements to the existing MARTA station. 

Additional information on the project scope and timeline will be made available as negotiations and planning progresses. 

Fresh MARTA Market 

The second season of the Fresh MARTA Market kicked-off on September 23 at the Five Points Station. The event included speakers from the Federal Transportation Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Community Farmers Markets. 

The Fresh MARTA Market, which debuted in 2015, provides access to fresh, healthy and affordable produce options in transit accessible locations. In its first year at the West End Station more than 8,000 pounds of produce were sold putting more than $7,000 back into farms with close proximity to station.

This year the program has been expanded to three additional stations: Five Points, H.E. Holmes and College Park. The Fresh MARTA Market achieves two important outcomes: the expansion of food access and growing a more sustainable local food economy.
