Dear Time Machine friends!

The Time Machine CSA is very much in the home stretch, with the final deliverable of a complete Large-Scale Research Initiative Strategy (LSRI) and Implementation Proposal due to the European Commission at the end of February. Large amounts of valuable feedback and input have been received from the community, and we are truly grateful for that.

The Time Machine CSA phase has been a very inspiring year in many and unexpected ways. What excites us the most is to see how our community keeps growing steadily: A diverse community of like-minded people who are keen to co-shape and push our vision of the Big Data of the Past for the Future of Europe forward. We have established encouraging and promising partnerships and are confident in finally submitting our Time Machine Roadmap to the European Commission.

Time Machine CSA turning Time Machine Organisation

Over the past few months, we have been busy setting up the Time Machine Organisation (TMO) to keep our momentum going after the submission of our the Time Machine CSA's LSRI proposal. The TMO is well prepared to hit the ground running in March, and we were excited to share with you some of the concrete plans and goals for the coming years and to elaborate on some specific use cases which were presented at the Time Machine CSA Final Conference, which took place in Brussels on February 17th. A detailed report is available below.

In addition, this newsletter provides you with news and updates on key Time Machine activities including: the CSA Final Conference and other events, the Time Machine Ambassador network and communication campaigns.

Time Machine CSA: The End is Just the Beginning

Over the previous 12 months, Time Machine has developed a vision and strategy that will sustainably contribute to innovation in the cultural heritage sector for the next decade and beyond. While this Large-Scale Research Initiative (LSRI) was initially striving to be part of the FET Flagship program, with significant funding under Horizon 2020, strategic changes by the European Commission which have eliminated funding under this program have necessitated adjustments in strategy and milestones to ensure that work can continue effectively. The focus will now be on short and mid-term goals (2-3 years), such as building some components of Time Machine through available project funding and creating immediate services for our members, as well as long-term goals (3+ years) such as securing more substantial LSRI funding under Horizon Europe and other mechanisms, continuing to grow the Time Machine community and expanding member services and benefits.

Our most immediate actions will primarily be focused on achieving the above mentioned short and mid-term goals, driven by the Time Machine Organisation (TMO) and thanks to the financial support of TMO members and national financial start-up support by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.
