UNFPA tracking temperatures for quality assurance

The UNFPA Quality Assurance team is currently working on a new initiative to further ensure the quality of condoms procured by UNFPA. A number of products procured by UNFPA are temperature-sensitive and must be transported and stored in specific conditions set by the manufacturer.

The Quality Assurance team is working towards ensuring that by the second quarter of the year, all condom shipments will include temperature tracking devices which will electronically monitor the temperature conditions of the shipment from the supplier’s warehouse to the final destination.

Once the condoms arrive in the country, the data will be collected from the device and sent back to the UNFPA Quality Assurance team - allowing UNFPA to monitor any temperature deviations and their potential impact on the quality of the condoms shipped.

The main advantage of this initiative is that it enables UNFPA to discover and respond accordingly to any damage caused during the shipment and storage of the condoms. Not only will this initiative help avert risk to end users and improve access to quality assured condoms, but it will also minimize the loss of resources caused by receipt of damaged goods.

For more information about the temperature tracking device, please contact UNFPA at

New Infographic! UNFPA hormonal contraceptives

A new infographic on hormonal contraceptives has been developed in order to help women better understand the range of contraceptive methods available through UNFPA.

The infographic which is currently available for download, gives basic user information, efficacy rates and a brief overview of the various types of hormonal contraceptives that are procured by UNFPA.

Access to contraceptive information is central to achieving gender equality, providing women with choice and control over their final contraceptive method choice.
