I just wanted to extend a huge thank you to all of our whānau for your patience and understanding over this Covid time. As a school staff, we feel so grateful to you all for how caring and supportive you have been and how eagerly the children have returned to school ready to get straight back to learning together.

Everyone has been weary negotiating these restrictions and changes to our routines. Juggling commitments and stresses around work is not easy, and it is refreshing to hear positive stories and optimism from our students. Well done and all the very best to you all around work and businesses.

The Term 4 Calendar is now available here. This is also available on our school website. Please check the weekly newsletters throughout the term as dates and times may change. With the possibility of being in level 2, many events may need to be altered or cancelled. Here’s hoping level 1 is on the way soon!

Due to roll growth, we were pleased to be notified by the Ministry of Education this week that we are able to advertise for another permanent teaching position starting in 2022. If you know of any teachers that would like to apply for this position there is an advertisement in the Education Gazette and Saturday’s newspaper where they can get further information on how to apply. Applications close on 14th October.

Reminder that children can be picked up from 2:50pm from the pick up points. It would be really helpful if drivers move on quickly and carefully to allow room for more vehicles. Of course if you stagger pick up times, it is smooth and safe for all. This worked well the first week but the tennis court and rocks area are getting a bit jammed up for the first 10 minutes.

The Ōmata Garden Club will be hosting guests as part of the Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail. This is a great opportunity for students to show off our school orchard and the planting and projects they have been doing there. If you would like to find out more about the Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail, you can find it here. The Ōmata School Orchard will be open to the public at these times:

Saturday 30th October 11am-2pm
Wednesday 3rd November 1:30pm-3pm
Friday 5th November 1:30pm-3pm
Saturday 6th November 11am-2pm

To prepare for the Sustainable Backyards, we will be holding a working bee. The working bee will be held on Saturday the 16th of October (last Saturday of the holidays) from 10am -1pm. It would be great if everyone could come and give an hour or two during that time. Bring some tools if you have them. See you there (weather permitting).

Each Sporting code and event organiser will be making decisions around games and events in the coming future, so things can change quickly. If your child is playing for a sports’ teams please keep an eye out for notifications on the club websites.

A reminder that orders will be arriving on the 11th of November for this camp fundraiser. Thank you for your patience around the Covid level restrictions that have delayed this fundraiser.

Ruma Tūī have been very busy creating a fabulous collaborative artwork featuring the story of ‘Maui and the Sun’. The children were in seven groups to contribute to this display.

Also look at the awesome wall display of the bubble learning that Ruma Tūī did over lockdown as well.

Friday Lunches
We would love some more helpers to keep the Friday lunches going. Currently we have enough helpers to offer two lunches a term. If you are able to help out on a Friday by either preparing food or picking up and delivering food from a local takeaway back to school, we would love to hear from you. Please email Kelly at omatahomeandschool@gmail.com

Ōmata Community Hall Defibrillator
The Ōmata Community now have an AED located on exterior wall of the community hall facing the staff carpark. There will be training to anyone in the community to attend once we reach Covid level 1. In the meantime you can find out more information and how to use this piece of equipments here.
