PRINCIPAL SABBATICAL

I have been very fortunate to have been awarded a NZ Principals’ Sabbatical for term two, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and TeachNZ. So our Deputy Principal, Mr Stuart Bennett, will become Acting Principal until term three.

Korimako will be welcoming Mr John Elliott who is the teacher in that class with Miss Coffey for term two. John comes with a wealth of experience in both teaching and in business.

ANZAC

If it is fine on Wednesday the 13th April, we will be holding an outdoor ANZAC Commemoration at 2pm. You are more than welcome to join us. At the conclusion of the service, you may take your children home. Thank you to Commander Graeme Emmerson, Mr Pat Murphy and Mr Bryce Gordon for supporting us again this year.

YEAR 5/6 INTER-SCHOOL SPORTS

The Year 5/6 Inter-School sports competition will be taking place in Term 2. This competition happens during school time and will involve about 3-4 fixtures spread out over the term. Some fixtures will be at home and others will be away. We require coaches for rugby, football and netball. If you are able to help out in anyway can you please email stuart@omata.school.nz

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

We have been working closely with the YMCA in regards to a potential option for Ōmata School children for after school care. We have emailed details out to all Ōmata School families last week and put this information in last weeks newsletter. There are currently three families that have responded as interested in this. YMCA have said that this could potentially be viable and will be in contact as soon as possible. We will keep all families that have contacted us informed about the progress of this over the next week, as it could begin as early as next term.

YEAR 5/6 VERTICAL HORIZONS CAMP

A heads-up that the Year 5/6 Vertical Horizons camp will be taking place in term three from the 21st-23rd September. Cost per child is $200.

BOOT SALE

Don’t forget to take advantage of our boot sale. We would love to see you come into the office to take a look at what is available. Children grow out of boots from year to year so this is a perfect opportunity to get football boots for the new season coming up. Some are free to grab and go and some for a small cost.

RUMA TŪĪ BIO BLITZ WALL

Ruma Tūī created a collaborative wall showing the learning they did with Dr Emily Roberts which was learning about the layers of the bush which included tree identification, bird identification and count, and bug search and identification down in the ngahere.

OJSC CRICKET SUCCESS

Congratulations to both the Intermediate and Incredibles cricket teams who came at the top of their grades and competed in the finals. The OJSC incredibles team won their competition. Many thanks to Kymon Hill and Gavin Stanley for their coaching efforts.
