December 2014 Newsletter - National Marine Educators Association

October 2014 header
Dear NMEA members,

This holiday season, I hope you will join me and take a few moments to consider contributing to the National Marine Educators Association’s 2014 Annual Fund Campaign. Founded in 1976, NMEA has always relied on its members to lead and shape the organization, and in turn, NMEA has been instrumental in elevating the field of marine and aquatic education. Now I ask you to help NMEA to make an even greater impact worldwide.

Each of us looks at NMEA through the lens of our own experience. Some value our acclaimed journal, Current, and many of us value the opportunity to work closely with like-minded colleagues from across the country and around the world. One thing I know is certain, we all value the talents, passion and commitment of our members towards making known the world of water, both fresh and salt.

Every gift will provide a measure of the support needed to sustain NMEA as the foremost leader for marine education. As our resources grow, so will the important services that we provide to our members. Please join me and make a gift today to NMEA’s 2014 Annual Fund Campaign to help us reach our goal of raising $10,000 by December 31, 2014.

Thank you for another wonderful year. I'm looking forward to all that 2015 has in store for NMEA!

Best wishes,

E. Howard Rutherford
NMEA President 2014-2015

Come present a session at our 2015 conference, which will be held in scenic and historic downtown Newport, Rhode Island!

The theme of this year’s conference is “Ocean State, Ocean Planet: Exploring Our World of Water” and there are five conference tracks: in the classroom, out of the classroom, next generation science standards (NGSS), today’s scientific research, and partnerships with industry and government. Session submissions will be accepted through January 30. This autumn was full of fun meetings, conferences, and sessions, and our members provided wonderful recaps for our What's New blog

Check out what it was like to attend EMSEA 2014 in Sweden, see what NYSMEA was up to in Brooklyn, find out who discussed ocean literacy in Woods Hole, learn what the next generation of conservationists did in Florida, and see why GOMMEA focused on green crabs in Maine.

We'd love to share your news and events too! Does your chapter have a great regional workshop coming up, or was a member just recognized for something really cool? Or do you have a striking photograph that would look good on our homepage? Drop us an email, or let us know on Facebook or Twitter, so we can help spread the news!
