Winter 2016 Newsletter - National Marine Educators Association

December 2016 headerHello Fellow Water Lovers!

As 2016 draws to a close, we are thrilled to share this latest edition of the NMEA newsletter with you, our members.  In this issue you will find information on some outstanding professional development and resources that occurred this year or are coming up. Read on for the latest edition of Current, updates on the NMEA17 conference in Charleston, and information on ocean literacy efforts, including a recap on a New England summit and registration for  upcoming webinars from our Ocean Literacy Committee!

This newsletter also contains information on our annual fund drive.  At this time, continuing our drive and passion for making known the value of our ocean and protecting it is more important than ever.  Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to NMEA to continue our work.  We are grateful for the very generous start to this year's drive in our paddle raise for the scholarship fund in June and the already generous donations that have been coming in since we started the drive this month, but we need you to help us reach our goal!

Finally, in this season of gratitude and generosity, I am reminded of how grateful I am for my marine educator family.  NMEA is a family to me and I am so grateful for each and every one of you.  I wish you a restful and peaceful holiday season and a fantastic start to 2017!

Peace, love, and water both salty and fresh,
Tami

It's the season for our Annual Appeal! Read the letter from our Board of Directors and Committees and please consider making an end-of-the-year gift to support the work of our organization! Annual Fund

Have some time off for the holidays? Celebrate along with us on social media with our #H2OHolidays fun facts and don't forget to take a look at our What's New blog to catch up with all that's been happening with our members and chapters!

Finally, a couple of quick reminders:

  • We're looking for a few great members to help fill roles in the organization! We have just recruited three new committee chairs, several new committee members, and are still looking for someone particularly interested in outreach and marketing to fill that committee chair position. NMEA is your organization. We are only as strong as our members help us to be, and we can help you grow and learn and make connections if you let us. Please let us know if you are interested in this or any other leadership role!
  • Are you looking to make a career change? Or seeking a fun volunteer or professional development opportunity? We're compiling employment and professional development opportunities on our website. Have an opportunity you'd like us to share? Send us an email and let us know - we just need a short description, a link to the full posting (either a webpage or PDF is fine), the location, and the closing date.
  • We'd love to share your news and events too! Does your chapter have a great regional workshop coming up, or was a member just recognized for something really cool? Or do you have a striking photograph that would look good on our homepage? Drop us an email, or let us know on Facebook or Twitter, so we can help spread the news!
