The Nutcracker Ballet
200 pairs of dancing feet, 26 separate numbers, 8 lead roles, 2 complete acts and 1 magical nutcracker -- all performed flawlessly under the direction of Ms. Iris Wilson, dance educator at PS 9, in the December 18th production of The Nutcracker Ballet.
For the second year in a row, Ms. Wilson performed her own magic by choreographing and directing a full two-act version of the classic Nutcracker ballet with a corps of 200 PS 9 students from lower and upper grades. This year's performance was held at John Jay High School in Park Slope. With its large auditorium able to seat the expectant crowd of parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers, administrators and adoring friends, John Jay offered an ample theater setting that added to the professional ambiance Ms. Wilson inspires as a teacher and accomplished dancer in her own right.
The PS 9 PTO community wishes to thank the extraordinary Ms. Wilson, Krystal Linton for her tireless assistance with the production, Principal Sandra D'Avilar, Parent Coordinator Charmaine Jacobs, Carol Sheldrake-Hernandez, Yvette Brown and all the parents who contributed to the success of The Nutcracker. Whether sewing tutus, pinning buns, selling tickets, or feeding hungry tots during intermission, it takes a village and this event was a shining confirmation of what makes our PS 9 community so special.
