Have you heard the news? That self-publishing is exploding? That it has never been easier to self-publish and distribute your own book? That self-publishing is the future of publishing, with 75% of all books predicted to be self-published within five to ten years?
GETTING PUBLISHED THE OLD WAY
Getting your book published in the past could be a long and hard road, and out of all the authors that tried, very few succeeded at actually getting a publisher.
The process would involve writing an extensive book proposal and getting a literary agent, who would then try to sell your book to a publisher. And the odds were greatly against you ever being published. In fact, many books that became bestsellers were first rejected by dozens and dozens of publishers.
Even Gone with the Wind was rejected by 38 publishers before it was printed. And one of my favorite books, the bestselling book Auntie Mame, which became a popular movie and Broadway hit, was rejected by 15 publishers before Vanguard Press picked it up.
Even the phenomenally best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul was rejected by 140 publishers. The publishers claimed that "anthologies don't sell" and the book was "too positive."
Eventually a small publisher took a chance on the first book and today, the book series has sold more than 110 million copies in 43 languages.
Now, as an aspiring author, you can bypass all the gatekeepers and just go ahead and self-publish your own book.
With the Internet, print on demand technology (POD), ebooks, and global distribution through Amazon and other online retailers, you can self-publish and distribute your book yourself almost overnight.
SELF-PUBLISH A BOOK FOR ANY NUMBER OF PURPOSES
